LR3 problems

when I import photos in raw, once they are imported, LR3 seems to apply some kind of change to them that appears to change the exposure and makes the images darker, not sure what I have done or whether this is normal..(basically it automatically goes through each one and darkens it)..?

I am not aware that I have set anything to be applied upon importing images and have tried deinstalling and reinstalling the app several times, but it still keeps all of my settings within the program (ie catalogs etc) upon reinstallation - very annoying...

have removed all directories associated with LR3 after deinstallation, but once reinstalled all catalogs and settings are still there...it doesn't even prompt for a licence key again..

Any ideas..?

When importing make sure that you have NO develop presets activated, I think it shows you on the right hand side what is gooing to be applied during impport.

As for the serial Number, this is stored in the Registry and the APP DATA folder (windows) so providing that you done reformat your HD it will never ask for the serial number

- develop setting None
- metadata None

Tone Control - Auto Tone (unhighlighted)

happens when it renders preview - have tried standard, minimal, 1:1 all do the same

It does this with my files too.

I'm under the impression that the image that gets displayed first is a JPEG of the raw from within the file. At a guess, the camera has applied some post processing and saves the JPEG with a boost to brightness...
 
ok...

click on the Import button (bottom left), select folder from source panel on left, that brings up v small thumbnails, all checked, click Import (bottom right)

Top left of screen says 'import files at their selected location' with a progress bar, images (about 9 display in main pane), then Top left of screen says 'Rendering Standard Previews' with another progress bar - images on screen then start going darker one by one

when I compare NX2 with LR3, LR3 images darker, NX2 look like the images before LR3 renders the previews

In NX2, I imagine the images that you see in that app have the same settings applied to the RAW file as those you have set to be applied in-camera. Thus, the image you see on the LCD screen will be the same as the one you see in NX2.

With Lightroom, I believe you have to set up and install Camera Profiles which would accomplish the same effect.

To the OP: What you seeing is a difference in the way LR is rendering your image and the way you see it on the rear of your camera.

If you shoot in RAW and the images you see on your LCD screen are a jpg rendered image made by the camera (regardless as to whether you shoot in RAW or RAW&jpg. The difference you see in LR will then be due to the jpg settings applied in-camera and the preset applied on Import in LR.

To solve this, simply make sure you have the 'Zero' preset applied to your images on Import. this will negate any in-camera effects that may have been applied to the jpg displayed on your viewfinder.
