LR Presets - am I missing something?

Yes
Hi all.
I'm a fairly heavy user of LR4. I'm not an expert, but I'm quite comfortable with using it to process my images. I'll occasionally batch process images for basic corrections, but I've never used presets, either home grown or third party. All the ones I've tried have been a bit "meh" - easier to create manually.
Question - an I missing something? Anyone found presets to be of value?
Can't help think I'm missing out in some way!

Hi

I am no pro and only take pics of my children and have tried a number but nothing that I like or use. I have created my own import present which I use but that is it.

Oh yes, I mean if I have 100 similar shots I'd just select them all, tweak the curves and sync across all the rest. But when it comes to presets advertised, are they just combinations of the normal lightroom sliders, or do they have any smarts of their own? What I'm getting at is I'm quite happy with the effects I can get manually, are any presets going to give me anything additional?

No. Commercial presets don't offer anything more than a glimpse at how others process their images.

I like to think of presets as getting me to a new starting point to further tweak and edit my images.

Sometimes I will use the presets I have to give me some post processing ideas but they are quite a blunt tool so can seem less valuable if only used as your total workflow rather than used as part of your overall workflow.
