So, I have all of my images on a 1TB external drive, with all the RAW's backed up to a second drive and the "Output" on my Macbook Pro. That 1TB drive is very near to full, so I have purchased a 4TB unit, and I want to move all my RAW files from the old drive to the new.

This will cause havoc with LR as it won't be able to find the the files. Once I have them copied, what is the best way to manage LR to find the new files and remove the old ones from the library?

Also, as I have Adobe Bridge, would this be a good time to start using that as an asset register as well?

I've been using LR for years, but can't remember what I did last time.

If the external drive is named the same, LR should 'see' the images. I do this regularly (I'm on a Mac, don't think this makes any difference). As long as the external disk is named, say 'Images' and the new, larger disk is also named 'Images' it will work automatically.

Ah, bu**er, I've already done a volume name change - in fact, that means that LR won't see the old drive either ill it.....

Ouch. The reason it should work if you DON'T change the name is that the filepath stays the same. For example /Users/Me/Volumes/Images is the same path no matter which physical disk you use - as long as you keep volume names the same as you upgrade.

Connect both drives to your MacBook. Then use Lightroom to move files from your old drive to the new one.
