Trying to improve my workflow and failing miserably

When I do rugby shots I might end up with 4-500 images from a game and many of them will be trash for one reason or another. IN lr I use the P button to pick from the folder and then import however I'd like to find a way to delete the unpicked images from the hard disk at the same time otherwise I end up leaving them all in place.

Barring that I'd like to find a way to delete the unpicked ones from the folder after I've imported without having to manually check file names

I'm sure technology can assist me to spend more time taking and working on images than admin of the images.

I do it the other way round... I don't pick the ones I want, I Reject 'X' the ones I don't.

Even if you import them all you call to the Library of all your photos then just Library/menu/photo/remove and the final option is to remove from disk!

Speaking from memory here as I'm on a different 'puter with no Lightroom.... if it's not remove then it's delete.

Once you have done your picks you can use the 'refine' photos option to change the picks to unflagged and unflagged to rejected. Then periodically delete all rejected to get rid of the unwanted.

Why not import them directly from the memory card rather than move them to your disc and then import them? That way you can pick the ones to import in the import screen and save them to disc at the same time.

When I have a few hundred photos to cull I prefer to use FastStone to kill off the obvious dross from. It's fast and cuts out the wasted time of importing images into LR, only to delete them immediately.

The survivors get imported then subjected to a second round of culling. I go through each image in turn. Obvious goodies get 'P', obvious dross get flagged as rejects with 'X' .Everything else I ignore using the 'U' flag. Now here's the important bit - do it with 'Caps Lock' set to 'On' and LR will automagically step on to the next image when you hit the flag key.

Once I've flagged them all I press Ctrl-Backspace to delete all the rejects.
