Hello,

I just wanted to find out if there are any good quality third party LP-E6 batteries I can buy online. Finally took the plunge and bought the 5D mark ii, which comes with one battery but ideally I will need another 1 or 2, but would prefer third party due to the canon price tag, and also I used them on my previous camera and never had any issues :)

Thanks,

J

Many of the 3rd party ones aren't chipped so you'd need a second charger and you won't get the battery info.

I think there are chipped ones out there, but just make sure you don't end up with the wrong ones.

Do a search there's been a number of threads about them, including OEM versions that are chipped and give full info.

I have 2 of them.

£50 for a canon one off Kerso, 2 is all you need unless you can't get too a charger for a long time.

I've got over 2,000 shots out of 2 batteries with power remaining so unless your running in a studio for thousands of shots it is well worth buying the proper batteries :).

Just bought a clone from www.7dayshop.com a week ago, charges in the Canon charger and displays percentage on the camera. Haven't given it a full workout yet but seems fine.
+1 for 7day shop ones. The only thing they don't have is a serial number so you can manage batteries, but they do show %age left and number of shots taken :) For £11 delivered, I'm happy.

+1 as well for 7Dayshop. Just bought 2 for £19.98 Charges using Canon charger. % display and recharge performance seem to work fine. Can't register in camera but that's no problem.

Yes, the capacity of these batteries is amazing. I've just come back from 10 days in Africa. In the past I'd be charging batteries for my xxD every evening. This tim I didn't need to use the charger at all. I swapped batteries when they were no longer showing three bars and only used three batteries while I was there.

time to get another set for my 5DII, i got a good deal on a 2nd canon battery when i bought the camera. Just need a couple for backup. Normally i never go through a set of batteries even in a days worth of wedding coverage.

I've not noticed any difference, but that is just an impression not a subjective test, but you'll get plenty of shots from one so stop fretting.

I buy a lot of batteries from the 7dayshop - they're generally great and exceptional value for money.

However, I bought spare batteries for my 5D many years ago. Their performance in cold weather was diabolical. I had a very chilly winter wedding where I had to change the battery every 15 mins (and then pop them into my pockets to warm up). Their ability to hold charge also seemed to drop very quickly with use.

For my 5D Mark II I bought Canon's LP-E6 batteries. Outrageously expensive but much more reliable.

hmm, well I'm going to give the 7dayshop compatible one a go, has some good reviews. I plan to use it along side my Canon original in a battery grip, so hopefully it will perform well.

Just get the one, see if your happy. If so, buy some more.

At the price (£10 delivered right?) you could buy six for the price of one Canon battery, and even if the battery doesn't give as many shots (in my experience it does) six are still going to easily outperform one official battery I guarantee you!

Just ordered two myself as a friend of mine uses them all the time without any issues.
