Hi
Has anyone used the Lowepro photo trekker AW II as hand luggage on KLM for EU travel.
KLM hand luggage sizes as per their website is 55x35x25cm. Measuring my lowepro, it seem to fit the bill without taking the waist straps into consideration.
Obviously the straps make the height more than 25cms:(. Not sure the airline staff allow this.
Any advice from experienced travellers most appreciated.

I was thinking of cutting off the bulky waist straps off but that would be a real shame:'(
Many thanks

Are you taking checked baggage too?

I have the Photo Trekker too but what I do when I'm travelling is I put it in my case and fill it with clothes. I then put my camera kit inc the 500 f4 in a cheap small rolling suitcase with some cheap pick and pluck foam in it .

When I get to the other end I empty the clothes out the photo trekker and use it as normal.

Hi Simon

Don't think it will fold backwards.

Neil, I was planning exactly the same. In fact I bought a cheap roller bag yesterday to varry on. I am carrying both 500 and 300 but they would fit in it ok. Need to make sure I don't bang it against walks etc as there is no padding.
The lowepro will have to travel in my checked luggage.
Many thanks to you both.

Glad you're sorted.

Just buy some cheap foam to give your kit a bit of protection. I bought over a metre of pick and pluck for about £20 a few years ago

Economy Class. Your hand baggage, including accessories, may not exceed 12 kg or Business Class may not exceed 18 kg 40 lbs).

Just to make you aware which is better than most (eg Virgin). Had the same issue with my Lowepro, just didn't want to risk getting to the airport and have my camera bag thrown into the hold, so bought a Thinktank accelerator V2 which met all my requirements including budget airlines that tend to be sneaky with hand baggage sizes, most only allowing 20cm depth which is the usual killer when it comes to camera bags.

Hi Pete and da-nige..
Many thanks to you both.
Pete as you said, ong bag does not fit all airlines
Think tank acceleration bag's external dimensions are: 35.6 x 22.9 x 52.1 cm
So it is bigger than the killer 20cm (Ryanair)

That's because of the computer pouch in the front. You actually get a computer bag to go in the pouch, if you don't need that it all fits within the 20cm size trust me I've tried it with experience of African airlines and easyjet, but to ease your mind if you can find a local camera shop that stocks thinktank check it out

Thank you Pete.

That's great to know. I will be on the lookout for one of them as my next purchase. ..
I have seen them pop up used every now and then so I will keep an eye on it.
Thanks again Pete
