I ordered one on Friday last week and it was delivered yesterday, bank holiday Monday delaying things by a day. Jacobs even phoned me up on delivery day to confirm that delivery would be that day - a nice touch.

As if I don't have enough bags and camera carrying solutions already, I added this to my collection for times when I'm not going out specifically for photography, but may want a camera with me just in case. The bag is small and lightweight and ideal for keeping a low profile, quite literally, as the whole bag is not padded. There is a removable padded compartment. It's the kind of thing I might use when taking the dog out for a walk and not wanting a bare camera/lens on display or subject to the elements, but at the same time wanting quick and fuss free access to the camera if need be.

Despite its small size I fitted a 5D2, 7D, 24-70 and either a 70-200 or 100-400 inside the bag (lenses dismounted), with all the gear separated by padding, and a 580EX II slotted into an outside pocket. With the inner padded compartment removed and the zipped expansion pocket expanded it will take a 7D and 100-400 with hood fitted and ready to shoot. You'd hardly know the camera and that big lens was in the bag to see it hanging at the hip. Recommended. :thumbs:

5. Loaded up with a 7D and 70-200/2.8 IS with reversed hood attached, a 5D2 and 24-70 with reversed hood attached, a 85/1.8 and reversed hood tucked underneath and a 100/2.8L Macro with reversed hood....

6. Padded box removed and a 1D3 with 100-400 and hood ready to shoot. Note that the material of the bag is not padded, so for gear outside the padded insert the protection is limited. That does give the potential of a bag which takes up very little room. and certainly doesn't scream "Camera gear here."....

I would not recommend loading it up to the extent I have in #5, because that's a chunk of weight for one shoulder, but it's an example of the capacity of the bag, despite its potential to be quite discrete and petite when less stuffed. If you didn't have to go far then no problem to load it fully. There are outer pockets on each side and at one end. They don't fasten, however, so may be of limited use.

I bought this bag last week but its still in the Jacobs bag as I may return it as there is very little padding as you say, no protection underneath if its put down onto the ground & I think it would soak through pretty fast if it were to rain.
One definite big plus though is its size & how unlike a camera bag. I got it primarily for taking on hols as ideal hand luggage, I'm talking myself into it again.
 
I really don't see the lack of padding as a problem. It's still more protection, and more discretion, than hanging the bare camera off an R-Strap or similar. As for putting the bag down, well I'd personally do that gently whether there was padding or not. It makes no difference to me. If you use the padded insert then no problem in any case.

With respect to weather proofing, or lack of, I'm a fair weather photographer and would rarely have gear with me in pouring rain. I do have four other camera bags, all with all-weather covers (Lowepro Slingshot 200 AW, Lowepro Flipside 400 AW, ThinkTank Airport Acceleration, ThinkTank Urban Disguise 60), so I'd simply use one of those instead. If I got caught in a surprise shower then that's another matter, but you could always keep a plastic bag or two inside the bag, either to line it, or to provide some base padding, or simply to keep the individual camera bits dry even if the bag gets wet on the outside. I don't know whether it has a water repellant finish - I imagine it does - but another option is to give it a liberal dousing with NikWax or similar.

As an only camera bag it may not be the most versatile choice. As an option to have available it is an attractive alternative, for me, to lugging around larger bags than necessary. The real appeal for me is that it does not look at all like a camera bag and I can use it while wandering around without looking like a tog. Yet at the same time I can have a camera handy to grab at a moment's notice if an opportunity arises. Your mileage may vary. :)

Just been bought this for Fathers Day, it looks great, I can get an DSLR with kit lens and an additional lens with no problems. I will be using this when i travel and in urban situations. I had to use my daughters camera to try it, hopefully i will have a new DSLR to try with it very soon.
 
now i have seriously downsized I had ummed and ahhed and even put one in reserve twice and changed my mind, until today; been and got one and it is the right bag for me, very comfy over the shoulder and it fits all my gear with space to spare... really chuffed for £29.99

That represents the accumulation over five years of DSLR ownership. :)

I started with the Lowepro Slingshot 200 AW and that served me well for a good while. The biggest mistake was the priciest - the Think Tank Airport Acceleration. It's fine for carting stuff about, but really crap for working out of on the move. My favourite bag all round is the Lowepro Flipside 400 AW.
