Hi.

I would like to give someone I know some images on a disc.
Ideally I'd like them to look pretty good on a computer screen but extremely naff if they attempted to get them printed.
What do you think would be a good file size (pixel wise) and file quality, to do this?

Thanks.

Bit of a balancing act this, even at the forum maximum size of 800px for the largest dimension if someone isnt too fussy about the quality they can be printed fairly large and still look OK, but if you want to appreciate them on a monitor you will need upwards 500px for the largest dimension.

Have you considered adding a watermark?

If you set the resolution to 70ppi they should print pretty bad?

Thanks.

Ok, maybe they don't have to be fully appreciated, just pretty good. Do you think 500 would do the trick?
I may watermark if I don't think the resizing will work.

And then it wouldn't matter about the size?.... say 800 pxls?

70ppi 800px and a very very slight large transparent watermark would work well enough I think to provide good enough images to view and produce pretty bad prints.

I will let you know next week - some of the images I received for the dog photo competition were only 600 or 800 pixels on their longest side and the prize is a 16 x 12 print of them so I have been upsizing for those people that don't have larger versions and am wiating for a couple more before I get them done.
