Low ranking on Google

Or, have we created a song and dance for nothing?

Should the question have simply been; 'I've just registered my domain and built a site, how long does it take for Google to index it?'

The answer is available above, but it's; 'not instantly, maybe a month or so before it settles down.'

Which of course has nothing at all to do with site design or SEO, both of which are beyond what the OP really wants advice on until he's sorted out what he really should have asked himself before building the site.

I think the OP may have hint at that in a post above. With that in mind he has 63 of his pages indexed and the first is on #10 place for 'oej photography' on a clean search.

A website is a complicated advertisement, it is selling a message. If you don't know what the message is, you have no advert, therefore you have no purpose, therefore you have nothing for SEO to do.

It simply isn't how it works. It's like saying 'I've taken a photograph, what do you think it should be of?', you're asking the wrong question.

I dont think anything you've said above is true whatsoever. A website isnt always a complicated advertisement unless you want it to be, what about the millions of people out there who run their own blogs or host their own forums? Yet they still look at SEO even though they dont have anything to sell?

Or, have we created a song and dance for nothing?.

I think the only person who has created a song and dance is you to be honest, I dont think many other people really mind. I think a thread discussing SEO would be helpful for a lot of people on here who are looking at increasing their rankings.

You're perfectly correct, a thread discussing SEO would be helpful, I've added to and learned from many of them. However, in order to help your rankings, we'd need to know what you want to be ranked for, and despite the question being asked several times, you've failed to tell us the answer.

I'm happy to help anyone with SEO, which is why I opened the thread to offer advice, but when I found you didn't have an actual SEO question it became difficult to offer help.
So, once more for luck, what do you want to be ranked for?

Did I not answer the question here?
And Mike posted a helpful reply where I might need to leave it alone for the time being and come back to it when I have a clearer idea, thats 100% fine.

I also dont understand how/why it matters what I want to be ranked for, theres millions of websites out there giving general tips which is what I was looking for. This is what I dont understand, take someone looking for a new camera the accepted response on here is "what do you want to shoot with it?" and to a beginner (like I am in this market) theyre not too sure, theyre just looking for some general advice.

I don't know if this is being lost in translation for me, English is not my first language but what you are saying doesn't make sense to me. To be able to rank in the SERPs you need to target those keyword. To be able to target those keywords you need to know what you want to rank for.

So a piece of general advice would be to target keywords users could potentially search for right?
I dont understand why thats so difficult to say?

Not at all, I understand people have said it on page 1 and I thanked them for their advice as it is appreciated.
What I dont appreciate is people refusing to give advice until I tell them exactly what keywords im going to looking to focus on, as ive said a number of times yet, im not entirely sure but why does that matter? If I need to focus on keywords for SEO great, thanks for the advice. If I knew the keywords surely you'd just tell me the same thing? This isnt directed at you by the way, I just dont understand how/why people cant give advice on SEO without knowing precise information.

I don't think people are refusing to help, they are just trying to talk you trhough it but good now you have answer. Thread closed. Good luck getting future help.

SEO, FORGET SEO for now.

Going back to your first post, typing oej photography into google puts you on page 8 of the results, you are going to have to wait some time and you might climb a few steps up, that's Google for you, it can takes weeks or months but certainly a lot more than 5 days or so since you went live as you said in a later post.
Typing your domain name into Google you gave it a specific instruction and it found your domain as expected hence the reason it's the first result. You type any domain name into the Google search box it will mostly always be first.

You know what type of photography you want to display on your website, Joe Public who might be interested in your type of photography doesn't know your website exists, also he doesn't know you from Adam. How are you going to get this Joe Public guy to visit your website?

He will not type into Google OEJ Photography cos he doesn't know you or the website exists so you need to attract him.

If you have been designing sites for a long time as you say you have then you should have an idea what keywords/content is about. To get further up Google a bit quicker you really want to put some sort of content/description on your page, also try to add into it something you might expect Joe Public to be looking for within your subject for example "cathedrals in Durham".

Once you have that part sorted Then look at SEO packages such a Yoast.

I can't think of a plainer way to say it.

Your current homepage has nothing on it except for the usual social media icons a rotating couple of links on the left and hidden page links to the rest of your site (not cool) until you decide to click the three lines on top left of screen which then allows you to see the page links.

TBH there is nothing on this page for google to add to its pages except a image titled P5230011-Edit-1160x870.jpg and for a website designer you wouldn't be getting business from me.
If you had this image smaller and a block of text could be explaining who you are, the type of photography or subject your interested in, you might be in with half a chance.
