Low profile graphics card

I've just migrated the internals of my PC to a compact case (currently using built-in graphics) and will soon need a low-profile graphics card.

The main applications are video transcoding and occasional video editing (1080p). I don't have a 4K device at the moment.

The other thing I need to be able to do is connect two monitors when needed.

I found the following card:

ASUS GeForce GTX 1650 Low Profile OC Edition 4GB GDDR5.

Any suggestions or recommendations for a suitable card?

I did find this review roundup of low profile cards
https://uk.pcmag.com/graphic-cards/94526/the-best-graphics-cards-for-compact-pcs-in-2019

In regard to your usage needs ~ if the programs you use can actually make use of the larger RAM in the GPU rather than using the CPU 'horsepower' for the processing, then I surmise you will need a minimum of 4GB in the GPU but if the programs do not make direct use of the GPU RAM then a fairly low RAM card will likely be fine. Therefore, though I perhaps state the obvious, do check the program Min/Remmended/Optimal GPU specs required..................should give you the pointer you need.

PS lots of cards now have ~ HDMI, DP and DVI ports so multi monitor rigs are catered for:)

It looks like PC Mag has got it slightly wrong as they're all 'compact' cards i.e. short in length rather than low profile which are low in height from the motherboard. As a note I 'think' you might be able to buy a PCIe riser card which turns the MB socket through 90 degrees allowing you to potentially fit a standard card length permitting, although I'll admit I've never seen one in the flesh.

Example of a low profile card: https://www.ebuyer.com/796995-zotac...0eP8mXwAWJsNPbSosiMkM0mBvrDY7lHEaAnjHEALw_wcB

I've got a Gigabyte GT1030 2GB in one of my systems. It's low profile and fanless and it's delivered with both half height and full height chassis mounts.

It's a low profile card I need, not necessarily a short card. In case of fitting a regular card with a 90 degree adapter I'd be concerned about temps.

A graphics card will offload processing from the CPU (and probably do a better job at it). I've not found a LP card with any more than 4GB.

I've just bought the MSI equivalent of that card because it didn't have the DP connector so had more room for air vents in the LP bracket. When it arrived I found MSI had done a silent 'upgrade' and it's now the same as any other LP 1650.

The power limit for LP cards is probably the same as passive cards at 75W and I don't know of any 75W cards with more than 4GB or RAM.

It seems the MSI card is now discontinued? Looking at the specs there seems not to be much between the MSI and ASUS other than the latter has a slightly higher clock speed (which won't make any difference to me).

By silent upgrade do you mean fanless or less powerful?

You won’t find many more options more than those above. There’s a couple from palit and zotac but they don’t improve anything.

Having dabbled with sff a few times I would suggest you think a bit longer term and consider spending £50 on a new case. Cooler master for eg do a very small mATX case that, at a guess isn’t much bigger than your current case, and allows you to have a full size gpu. System performance is likely to be heavily reliant on dgpu for the 5 years at least, so give yourself options.

No, just that it's not the same as it was without any notification. Looking more closely at the Amazon listing, the headline photos are of the original card but much further down it shows the current V1 model.
