A copper knocked on my studio door, having seen my CCTV cameras. Someone was attacked nearby this afternoon...

Anyway, we took a look, saw the victim walking past on camera, then the 2 suspects following him. Nonedescript clothing with hoodies, could barely even see the colour of their skin let alone their faces so not much help there.

But 10 minutes later they came back. One of them noticed the camera, looked right at it and said something to his mate, and he looked straight at it too.

Result:)

Good stuff.

:clap::clap:

Great lets hope they are already known to the police or that they can be tracked down to face the music!

One of them was instantly recognised, a regular customer.

Isn't it heartwarming to know that these low life's are not
always the sharpest tool in the box? :D
Result indeed :thumbs:

I think its great when stuff like this happens and criminals get caught. The more CCTV cameras the better in public places imo.

We have (literally) thousands of images doing the rounds at the moment, following the riots in London. They're arranged by borough - mine has over 100 in circulation - and it's amazing to just sit there and identify familiar face after familiar face. We're arresting around 100 people a day at the moment, though that will start to slow down for a bit now.

CCTV doesn't solve all problems, but when it works - it works very well. Just so long as people keep their systems in good order, and invest in a system that is good enough quality to recognise facial features.

See this is my gripe with a lot of cctv, when i watch crimewatch & see the video footage from the cameras some of them the quality is bad that you wouldn't even recognise your own brother from them. Then of course there is the other side of the coin where the clarity is excellent, & the crimianl notices the camera & looks directly at it, busted!:thumbs:

Mine is nothing special THB, but it does the job.
The recorder, with a 1Tb hard drive was only about £140 and the cameras were about £25 each. If I spent A LOT more on the cameras I could have superb image quality, but what I have does the job for me.

A few years ago, when I was recording onto VHS tape, the playback quality was terrible and I'm guessing that a lot of the CCTV footage shown on the box is from years ago, with tapes that had been recorded over so many times that they were just worn out.

PhotoPlod is right, CCTV can be very helpful in identifying people. It can also be helpful in proving a negative - the last time the police wanted to look at my CCTV was when a young girl claimed to have been sexually assaulted, and my CCTV proved that nothing had happened. Apparently she then admitted that she had made up the story because she'd stayed out late and didn't want to get into trouble at home.

...........................CCTV doesn't solve all problems, but when it works - it works very well. ..............

or not, having been told by Strathclyde officer he was '' 99% certain'' it was me on a £70 fuel drive-off.......:cuckoo:

considering I drive a taxi plastered with Council decals and plates,

the CCTV was rubbish ....never heard from him again............:razz:

:lol::lol:

Slightly off topic Thats good news I must have missed the follow up to the thread you started about this, I read with interest but missed the result.

Back on topic, goos to know that they work well, I also thought CCTV was not used as evidence for some human rights thing but evidently it is, result.

Thanks for the interest...there wasn't a real 'conclusion/result' as the said Officer never followed it up - so was left thinking ''WTF''....:lol:
