Hi,

I have just received my two lencarta studio lights and have been playing around with them and I am happy with my high key(white back ground) stuff but I can get it right for the Low key(black background) photos.

Can any help how to setup, what camera settings etc?

many thanks jai

Try and get your lights as far away from the background as possible and I tend to have them pointing more inwards as opposed to towards the background so that you don't get any spill.

Does anyone know of any videos that would help me?

Indeed, what modifiers are you using and what distances are you working with?

This thread would be better off in the "lighting & studio" sub-forum, you'll probably get more help there.

Hi Jai,

Like the others have said the key is to keep your light off the background. As the previous posters have suggested the way to do this is to get your subject away from the background and use light modifiers such as a soft box.

As for getting the right camera settings and light power, an easy way to set it up is to meter your background with your camera. If (for example) the camera's light meter says you require f2.8 at 1/125 to get a proper exposure then you would probably want to be shooting at least 3 or 4 stops or more away from this to get your background nice and black - perhaps f11 or f16. You can take a shot to see if it is as dark as you want it.

Once you know what camera settings you have to get your background nice and dark, you just need to set your lights accordingly. So you would meter your lights to be f11 or f16 and just make sure they didn't add any more light into the background....

Hope that helps!!

Cheers,
