I was gifted £100 to treat myself before Xmas so purchased a 50mm for my Canon 60D and so far loving it.

First picture is my middle daughter and was taken quickly when she turned round in the restaurant.

The other is a reservoir I pass on a regular basis and never seemed to have time to stop but made the effort today as the sun was shining.

Think it might be coming with me to Budapest next week :-)

Lots of people seem to decry any lens that hasn't got an "L" designation or is simply cheap.

And the 50mm f1.8 is definely the cheapest lens that Canon make, and in my opinion, as i have said many times on here, as good as an "L" glass lens.

And, coupled with Auto Extension Tubes also makes an excellent macro lens far cheaper than a dedicated macro lens.

Here is on of my earlier threads showing the results which can be obtained using 2 COMPLETE sets of Kenko Extension Tubes and the 50mm f1.8:

So congratulations on finding out for yourself how good this little lens is!

I've amassed a fair collection of more expensive lenses now, but the good old cheapie 50 is the one which normally lives on my camera unless I specifically need another focal length. Light, compact, sharp, cheap - can't really argue with that!

Also love my fifty. Upgraded to the 1.4 but agree with what Peter said. The 1.8 is every bit as good as an L lens.

Enjoy creating some great images.
