Interesting - always wonder how much vignetting you'd get on FF sensor. I guess that pic at f5.6 answered my question

I didn't even know you could fit it on a 5D, you live and learn eh.

only shame is that you get the black ring around the edges in the frame due to the wide view, no matter what focal length at, so lots of cropping! :(

so want one for my nikon d40

I think you would have been better off with the sigma 12-24 and no vignetting TBH as it was meant for full size sensors and the 10-20 is made for APS sized sensors.
It looks nice a sharp though ;)

oh no :P d'oh!!! hmmm well i think i shall investigate into the 12-24!

example below- ...just a quick snap taken with my ringflash unit, and lens mounted through it, at 20mm focal length. obviously the ringflash doesnt help matters as the lens even at full zoom still 'opens up' enough to catch the edges, had it been at 10mm, only about 40-50% of the frame would have been useable.
(dont think my friend in the pic would have taken to kindly to the fact he's published on the net now :D lol)

You did know its not designed for a FF camera before buying it? 17-40L is a better buy and practically the same as a 10-20 on a 1.6x body. In my experience you can use it from 13mm onwards but you get heavy vignetting. 16/17mm is probably best but at that point you may as well just buy a 17-40L. Remember that a FF sensor will show up bad glass so you really need good glass.

well i had heard a few bad words about it when paired with FF, but didnt really have opportunity to try it 'out of the box' so to speak at a shop, so opted out! needed it for the cheapo 350d at worst,...actually have the 17-40L on order, as I know the L glass is essential!

Didn't they say anything? Just seems a bit crazy really. It'll be fine on the 350D for sure. Its one of my favourite lenses but its not for the 5D. Yes it "works" but its not doing justice to the 5D's sensor.

If you had to crop it like that defies the point of having a wide angle lens in the first place.

Invest in a 17-40 or a 16-35 :p

I do want this lens. I do :(

hmmm dont know whether to flog it or not, as i had a play with it on the 350d, and its really nifty, nice and wide without need for excessive cropping, etc. but somehow with so many other goodies to be bought for the 5d, seems a bit of a waste!

Sell it. Get the 17-40L and next time you buy a lens mention that you have a 5D so the industry standard shop type bloke can say "Whoa there missy."

We all make mistakes, just take it on the chin, there are plenty that would buy the lens off you.:)

I have got one also for my 40D.

Ouch! Shame on the shop for not letting your know this is DC only.
EDIT - Sorry, misread your post, ebay purchase not shop!

Surprised it seems so bad at 20mm. I've used my 10-20 on a film body and I can't remember there really being any vignetting 17-20mm. obviously at 10mm it was very bad and made my brain hurt looking through it but it was certainly useable at the long end.

how is it so different on a 5d? i would have though that the FOV should have been identical to a film body?

Isn't the 10-20 an EF-S mount? And the 5D EF only?

Im gonna have to come right out and say it then......errr.how? lol

That question is still bugging me too. :)

Sigma lenses will mount fine. They use a universal mount - ie EF not EF-S, even for their DC lenses.

have the 10-20 for my 40D and it's a fun lens. i'd have gone for the 17-40L on a 5D
