No
And not content with doubling the fee, they have now added another 10 numbers
  • Extra numbers to choose from
You will now choose 6 numbers from a total of 59 rather than 49.
And thats a good thing?
  • These changes make the nation’s favourite game even more exciting.

OK if you say so.

Who's betting that this will actually harm the lotto
( used to be called the national lottery of course ;) )

Missus is not doing it anymore, deffo not going to watch results !

I never watch the results, I play on line, ( occasionally) and get emailed if I win,
but I doubt I'll be playing any more either, unless it gets to really "silly money",
that's the only time I play the Euro.

I stopped doing it when they bumped the price up to £2. Instead of buying 5 tickets (as I did when it was a £1) I would go into the casino after work, slap a tenner on red or black at the roulette table for one spin only and then walk away, win or lose. I certainly won more that way than playing the Lotto.

I will go stand in the bus lane and wait and see if it hits me. The odds are better so it must be more exciting.

My friend won £2.6m on the national lotto about 3 months ago the lucky b*****d. Not seen him he's keeping a low profile and bought a house in the country.

Very nice too, I've never known anyone that's won more that a couple of quid,
However ( according to local gossip and the radio) someone very local, did hit the Euro jackpot, when it was around 100 million, some time back,
that's just an obscene amount, but good luck to who ever it was!

Lotto with even worse odds of winning anything than Euromillions and with even crapper jackpots.

Couldn't have put it better myself

I won the local football lotto once with 5 numbers £300 I think. They should make the national lotto 5 numbers more winners but obviously less money.

I don't do the lotto anymore, instead I buy £1 scratchcards, I've had more wins on those than I ever did on the lotto.

Saying that though the only time I will buy a Euro lotto ticket is when it goes to crazy money, other than that no.

:-)

I win every time I don't buy a lottery ticket.
But how do you know? that last one you didn't buy may well have been the winner :D

I think hes referring to the quid he saves every time

I realised that, but he may just have bought the winning ticket on impulse :D

Its actually 2 quid now BTW even less chance to win too

I've never won anything on the lottery and i've been playing it since it started, which i think was 1994, but being an eternal optimist i still play now and then :)

Oh yeah read it completely wrong.

I certainly did win. And I have the winnings already. As always.

Im just amazed that people don't understand odds and throw their money away on a regular basis.

I play the anti-lottery. Win a quid every week. (Well, two!)

I did read a while back that if you're a male aged between 25-45 (or something like that), you have more chance of being struck by lightning on the way home from buying the ticket than you are of winning.
Does sound improbable to be honest, but even still...it does make you think about the staggering odds.

People can't comprehend the meaning of odds when the number of digits is so long.

Yep the odds are crap, but I'll continue to play the Euro when it gets above 75 million,
Its worth a shot and someone has to win it.
But apart from that, I still say this latest move by the UK lotto was a stupid move, (hopefully) It'll hurt their profits, and they will re-think it.

Just pray that you don't get struck by lightning when you scoop the big one :D

Its amazing how many millions have to lose, so one person may possibly win. Funny when people say lets do a syndicate in the hopes of a win. Sometimes there is no winner after millions of people have bought a ticket. Even if you had a few thousand mates in your syndicate, it would still be dam hard to win it

"The chances of anything coming from Mars, are a million to one he said."
And the rest of the lyrics goes on to say ....
:p

"The chances of anything coming from Mars, are a million to one he said."
I read some place that the odds of aliens being on X planet ( cant remember what one ) were 50/50 as nobody had landed on the planet to find out. It was argued, there were or there were not aliens, so it works out at a simple 50/50 chance

Is it the Drake equation you are referring to? It's highly likely that there are aliens somewhere. But the chances of us discovering them are not so great.

There are plenty of not so life changing lotteries. Why compete in that pool. Besides they are government regulated.

It's about life changing dreams, winning is just a very welcome remote possibility. For the sake of a couple of quid it is possible to never ever having to work.

I still dream about winning. For free.
Then its an even more foolish dream than those that play to the dream, you cannot win what you are not in ;)

Or as the saying goes you gotta be in it to win it ;)

No idea where I read it, ages ago it was ..

The odds may be astronomical, but lots of people have won over the years.

And will someone please think of all those good causes that have benefited from the national lottery.

I get a small win every couple of months, used to play in syndicates at work too, won around £2500 as my share from those. I continue to play both lotto and euro, every week online.

Do you count a £1 as a win? Personally, I think that's just a failure to lose but does seem to count as a real win when they're claiming a ?% win chance. IIRC, one of the new "prizes" in the lotto is a free lucky dip, so a small chance of any real win again.

Like Marcel, we now play the anti-lottery. At the beginning, we did a fiver per week on random numbers and actually won a tenner in week 1 and £80 or so the next. Carried on playing until the winnings ran out then stopped.
