Hi all

Sadly 3 colleagues got nearly all their gear stolen from a car in Chelsea last night having literally stopped for 5 mins to go to the toilet. It was a couple of kids on a moped who the police thought probably saw them loading gear in and followed. It's crap at any time but when you've got weeks of wrangling with insurance agencies ahead and no tools to earn your living it's double rubbish.

Anyway, there were 2 Nikon 400mm 2.8's taken along with 7 Nikon D4s/D3s's a D810, 3 70-200's, and various 24-70's, 14-24's, teleconverters, laptops etc etc

I'll update this post with a list of serial numbers when I get them but in the mean time if anyone gets offered anything that looks a bit too good to be true please keep this in mind. Complete long shot I know but stranger things have happened

Please no chat about the wiseness of leaving kit in cars, if you're a working professional it's kinda unavoidable at times and we've all done it! These guys just got very unlucky.

Thanks guys and sorry for the very depressing post...

Doubt there's much anyone on here can do without serial numbers.

Check Ebay... check local cash converter type stores. Check gumtree.

I hope it is recovered.

Yep long shot, but you never know! I'll update with serials as I get them.

I'm sure the people effected will be looking on all of those channels.

Thieving sods, lucky it's all insured, still crap though.

Awful lot of bulky and heavy kit to cart away on a moped especially if they were already riding two up.
To be honest thinking about it, how did they carry it all, are they sure it was the kids, someone must have seen a moped that loaded up

That's a lot of equipment to carry on a moped. Would have been easily identifiable on CCTV. I wonder if the police have checked and got a reg number for the moped. Also if they sell the cameras images will eventually start to surface online with the serial numbers embedded in the exif data. Forgive me if these points have already been brought up with your friends and the police, just trying to offer some assistance.

Two think Tank rollers and 2 backpacks. No idea how they did it but CCTV and witnesses say 2 "kids" on a moped! A bouncer from a pub saw it and did cock all..

Police apparently very helpful but not hopeful of catching them, I guess stolen moped and helmets?

Don't blame him, why risk getting shot or stabbed for someone else's material belongings.

Totally different if someone is getting hurt, my employers always said never defend our property if you are threatened.

keep an eye out on ebay if you see something like as for the sellers gear serial numbers

If it's insured I wouldn't waste my time on a near certain fruitless search, they are pro photographers and really need to get it replaced pronto.

Even on the very odd occasion someone has tracked down a missing item on Ebay the police have been reluctant to help.

Getting on to the insurer to see if they will fund rented gear would be a better use of their time and effort

Thieving scum:( fingers cross for the return of the equipment.

I'm also guessing that as they had been away somewhere they may have irreplaceable value in sd cards etc ( ie, not able to reproduce the shots they had taken earlier that day)

The worst thing is that the thieving scum will likely have no idea of real value and unload the gear for a spliff down the local......

About 4 years ago I had my business clothing stolen - Ralph Lauren polo shirts & Playboy handbags. Took my only few days to find it from eBay - better than the police. Guess what? They are all mine but this eBay sellers had bought them from a thief. I had all of them back. I recognize my polo shirts from eBay plus the sellers also listed playboy handbags too !!!

You never know !!!
