Lost preview of NEF files in Win7 *RESOLVED - Solution posted*

Looks like after a Windows update I have lost my preview of NEF files in Win7 - I have again downloaded the Microsoft Codec pack but to no avail.
Anyone else experienced this?
Anyone a solution?

Not so far, I suppose you could try a restore point.
 
Yes I can't think of any other way, strange just to have gone :shrug:
 
Typical - says it can't restore as it can't access a file and maybe due to anti-virus but I've switched that off before attempting the restore :annoyed:
 
mine did this with my canon cr2 files a few weeks back, only way I seem to be able to view the thumbnails is through windows live picture viewer rather than windows explorer. I do wish microsoft wouldn't mess things up like this!
 
Just tried my RAW ones and still previews OK.

Try right click and open with Windows Live Photo Gallery, Gramps.

I had to change to that last year to view RAW.

Problem is then I have to sign up to Windows Live Essentials and I don't want to do that.

Have you installed the Nikon codec?

I think this is the latest version, run as administrator
 
I just installed the Microsoft codec a few days ago and it is still working on W7.

Microsoft Camera Codec Pack Version 16.4.1620.0719 is what I have installed

Thanks for all the suggestions folks, it is now resolved.

I discovered that a setting in 'Folder Options' had changed, under the 'View' tab the checkbox for 'Always show icons, never thumbnails' had become checked - unchecking this has restored all of my image previews.
