Lost my network

As a test stop the IPsec service on the computer you cant connect to..
Start - Run - Services.msc [enter] (find IPsec service and stop it)

See if that lets you through.

the router has it's own firewall and windows is also doing it's stuff.....but the network worked with that configuration before.

LL....yes the admin Password has been set since the last time I transfred files over......but it's set to allow sharing still on both machines.

Who?

start >run>// ip does nothing other than bring up an error sayimg windows can't find it......no **** i can't see it either :bang:

This is windows right, try turning the admin passwords off again and see if you can see them. Maybe not, but if that is something that has changed since last time, then changing it back will do no harm and might solve the problem.

I missed this thread before. It sounds like both machines have come up as controllers. This can happen sometimes and confuses the **** out of windows networking. On the machine that is trying to access the share, bring up a dos prompt and run the following:

nbtstat -a <ip>
where <ip> is the IP address of the machine with the share on.
Then in the run box type in \\<ip> and see what pops up. The use of nbtstat -a can force windows to make the network connections again. I've had to do this numerous times to force my PC's to talk to the main desktop for printing purposes.

What op systems are running?

thanks for the replies
I've not managed to sit in front of the main pc for a couple of days now.... But I'll have a look soon.
