Lost all pictures 64gb sandisk help...

Hello,

I'm currently out in thailand on a once in a lifetime trip with the mrs and kids,
I bought a new 64gb 120mbs cf card before I went and 3 weeks in I've turned on my 5d2 and it said card not reckonised and needs to be formatted, so I put it into a card reader and plugged it in the computer and it's saying the card is empty!
Now there should be hundreds of pictures on there!! All shot in jpg and raw, has anyone experienced this? Is there a recovery program I can use? I've now taken the card out and put it in the bag and not reformatted it, and gone back to using my 4gb card for now!
 
You should be ok Westley, you've done the sensible thing and not reformatted the card or used it at all so once you're back home just run some recovery software and all being well you should get the files back.
There's loads of free recovery programs about. Fingers crossed for you.
 
Sandisk have a recovery program that comes with all there cards (if it was a sandisk)
its worked a few times with getting my stuff back

this is the reason i dont want a big card (not a dig at you)

As others have said , if it's a sandisk card there will have been a serial number to allow a download of the rescue pro software.

I once had an issue where the images were "cut" from a cf card and pasted to a hdd which promptly decided to die :eek:

Used the software and recovered 99% of the images from the event I'd just shot as well as some which were taken months earlier even though the card had been formatted loads of times since !!!
 
I have the Sandisk recovery program on disc (somewhere)

If you need it on your return just let me know and I will drop it in the post
 
And this is why I never shoot anything bigger than an 8gb on holiday.

I have in the past had success with the Sandisk software as others have reported. Saved a pic I loved and accidentally deleted in Thailand by coincidence!
 
Is out genuine sandisk? There are a lot of fakes that report as lather storage thank they really are. When you go over the actual storage size limit it starts writing over other stuff... The recovery programs are very good, especially with jpg though

Some positive feedback, so hopefully I can salvage some/all the images,

I bought the card from a internet site, come packaged etc and looks genuine, also cost circa £150 so it better be real! I don't think I have the packaging anymore, would the serial number in the card itself be ok?

Ironically I plugged the camera into my macbook last week when I was down traveling the islands to offload the pictures but before I could even open up iPhoto the battery run out on the macbook and I had left the charger to it at a family
Members house back on the mainland!! Lesson learned, next time back up all of my photos everyday!!

Well, I'm flying back to the UK Monday so will update Tuesday if I have any success..

Westley, I have a code for the SanDisk RescuePro software. PM me for it if you don't already have it. (Mine came on a leaflet in the SanDisk packaging.)
 
hi all, well I'm back from thailand and just run the rescue pro program and am pleased to say that all 1884 photos have been picked up…
over the moon,
however, i run the free trial, so need to purchase the full version, can anyone suggest whether to get the rescue pro or rescue pro deluxe?

No mention on the leaflet that it's a trial version, just that it's a one year subscription to Rescue Pro Deluxe. If I can find a CD version, I'll post it up to you Westley. Not 100% sure I've still got any but there might still be one kicking around somewhere!

I did try the code but apparently it was invalid, maybe it has a use by date?
It's ok tho, thanks anyway.
Have family over at the mo, so when I get 5 mins I'm going to purchase it as the photos are irreplaceable and well worth the £30.. :)
 
I have always used open source freeware software called photorec, which reads formatted and unformatted disks. Really good. Runs in a DOS / command-line type of interface.

For some reason I couldn't get it to work, so I just bought the program and have recovered all of my pictures,
