Losing a pet :(

Yes
We had to say good bye to my precious baby this morning.

He hasn't been himself since before Christmas when we found out (after going to the vets for him for other reasons) that he had a tumour in his intestines.

Tuesday night he was like a rag doll, mentally with it, but his body was lifeless, he couldn't walk and so we rushed him down to the vets.

He was out on anti inflammatory and anti biotics to help him with the nasty virus he'd picked up, but the vet advised he was an old man and to have to expect to have to make a decision if he didn't improve over the next 24 hours.

He made a slight improvement until late last night, his breathing was shallow, but he was still with it and quite bright eyed, but over night his health deteriorated rapidly. We came to the decision to have to put him to rest as it wasn't fair on him.

We were due down the vets with him at 920 but he passed away naturally at 0900.

I'm heartbroken and guilt ridden as I feel that me not making the decision last night when really I should have down, I feel I prolonged his suffering.

Words can't describe how I feel. He had such a beautiful personality, such a loving cat. He wanted snuggles with me last night, which of course I gave him and he purred like never before.

I hope he is resting in peace.

I love you so much little man.

Xxx

Sorry for your loss Sarah, it's always very hard to loose a much loved pet. We have lost a dog and a cat in the last 14 months and our eldest German Shepherd isn't doing to well too.

It took quite some time before my wife and I could talk about them with a smile and not a tear. We have a few pictures and a Canvas around the house so they are always with us and they are buried in the rear garden so I talk to them all the time.

He looks adorable

So sorry to hear Sarah. Its been the hardest thing I've ever had to do letting go of my 2 cats late on last year.

He's a lovely chap and is suffering no more! :)

Sorry to hear that sarah.

So sorry to hear this news Sarah. It's never easy losing furry friends is it. :hug2:

I'm so sorry to hear about this. Remember him how he is in that picture and try not to think about him suffering because there's no way you could know. I lost my dog last year after 14 years it was unbelievably difficult to deal with but I know he's in a better place and not suffering so it makes it a little less painful. X

Awww, he is the absolute spit of my black cat, Chad. Indeed, it's always sad losing a much loved and favourite pet.

I do feel for you. :'(

Aww, such a cute little furball :'(

It really is horrible losing a pet, I've been through it with 2 cats and 2 German Shepherds and it hurts every time, but try not to feel like you prolonged his suffering. You did everything you could for him and I'm sure his final days on this little blue planet were as happy as they could have been.

I know it hurts now but it does get easier in time. :)

Sorry to read this.

Having lost 3 of my cats and one of my dogs PTS over the last year or so I sympathise with you.

What's the old saying - "Grief is the price we pay for love"

It always hurts but over time it's the good memories we keep.

sorry to hear of your sad news words can't make you feel better but owing you loved him and looked after him and gave him a good life is what matters

Ahh so sad
We've got cats so know what you are going through
One of ours is very elderly and we will have to make a very difficult decision in the near future .
At the moment she's happy and eating ok.
It's really difficult to get right but you did everything you could for him

Always so sad when a friend passes. I just wish it was possible for us humans to decide the time of our own passing rather than be kept alive at almost any cost to keep a doctor or hospital's mortality rate down.

very sad to lose a pet, feel very sad for you.

:'( think one of mines on his last legs too and dreading it. So sorry to hear of yours.

Thankyou all for taking the time to reply, it really is appreciated. We have just buried him in the garden and were going to buy a lovely oak plaque with his pic and a few words on and will do a little flower garden where we've buried him. He's my best non human friend ever. I feel totally lost without his snuggles.
I can't stop crying, my eyes are red raw. :(

Sarah I feel for you I really do.
I've had cats all my life and they all had their own little characters, some loving some not so. 3 years ago I had to take my favourite Black cat to the Vets she wasn't well at all. I knew she wasn't coming home with me even before I got there. I cried all the way there and all the way back.
You've got a lot more tears to shed yet but you will get there.
Thinking of you.

Cats or Dogs it matters not, they give unconditional love and when we lose one we suffer for it . When i lost my last Golden Retreiver we had a good cry and then decided we'd rescue one in her memory, now we've got two!! Its a great way to get over your loss and help another regain the life it should have! You wont forget but it helps to have another relying on you. Good Luck

Always difficult when a pet dies! I recently lost my old dog who was 16, and as difficult as it is, you will remember them fondly with a smile. It takes time for the tears to subside but they do eventually. Thinking of you x

Thinking of you - I lost my soul horse very young after he broke his leg and still mourn him now, 10 years later. Pets take up so much of your heart they leave a gaping hole when they go, and although a successor (never a replacement) can almost fill that gap, there will always be a small, cat, dog or horse shaped hole left for each of those we lose.

Hugs.

Thankyou so much everyone for your kind words. I feel pretty numb today :( cannot believe it's happened x
