Just watched on TV news a photographer trying to take photos of the above through the prison van window. Nothing wrong in that EXCEPT his first shot was with a flashgun. AS what I presume is a professional photographer surely he would have realised all he would have got is one huge bright reflected light off the prison van darkened window.

well maybe not if he had the lens right up against the window - but that said i've nver seen any of these shots make it into the paper - i think they just try it on the off chance

they are wasting their time the glass is reflective double sided mirror glass. I used to work as a security driver for those prison vans, and i tell you, those little cell compartments are very uncomfortable and tight. There was a clinically obese guy who we had to take in a minibus cuffed to a guard because he physically couldnt fit in the cell.

been discussed before, cant remember what the thread came up with (try a search) think they have polarizing filters on and as said the lens is up against the glass so they would get shots, maybe of empty cells it just chance they get a shot, or they wouldn't be trying would they

I've seen at least one picture that was sucsessful. They wouldn't bother if it wasn't possible.

I thought this might be a thread about whether these Lords and MPs should get prison sentences for fiddling their expenses. I know what they did was bad but I do feel a bit sorry for them. These were all first convictions and non violent. What do others think?

nope, you use flash. As what I presume is a professional news photographer surely he would have realised all he would have got if he hadn't used a flash would be a dark frame of the inside of the van.

1/250th, f8, 1/4 power flash, 45 degrees to the window, manually focussed to 1m.

:)

they don't often work out, but when they do, you usually see them in most of the papers the next day - look at the ones of assange for example.

Hang them I say!

Thats the thread Tom

They stole they pay the price :bonk:

I know that but I just wonder how many people get prison sentences for first offences of theft where no violence was involved. It seems that a lot of offenders are given several chances- probation, community service and other sentences before they get a prison sentence.

These are the legislators who make the laws we're all supposed to try and live by! No sympathy from me - they're in hugely privileged positions of trust and have quite rightly been sentenced on that basis.

For the average Joe a sentence like that would be pretty disastrous - for these guys it's an embarrassing inconvenience which they thought they could wriggle out of, but they'll do their time (or some of it) come out and resume their pretty cushy lifestyles.

I have more sympathy than most, as we don't pay our legislators anything like enough.

While a serious crime, I do not think it is as serious as burglary, or attempting to pervert the course of justice (e.g. getting a spouse etc to take your speeding points), or fronting (which I think should see a minimum 12 month custodial sentence).

It is worse than burglary its theft from the government purse, especially as he is supposed to be in a position of trust. I think his title should also be taken off him without any chance of getting it back.

lol our government can swindle our tax money on 2d homes, bird baths and tv subscription porn, when caught they get a slap on a wrist.

you decide not to pay your taxes, work cash in hand, work while on job seekers, or do not register your business, you are expected to pay it all back and can also get up to 5 years in jail. just goes to show who is favoured more in the eyes of the law, if you dont pay the government its beloved tax to spend on expenses you are treated worse than a burglar

Can you be in London next Friday? (10th)

Always good to see "the knowledge" get quoted! Cheers!

Unfortunately, the settings I quoted there are for a regular car shot. A prison van shot is MUCH harder.

General rule of thumb is 1600ISO, full power flash, lens flat to the glass, pre-focused to about 1m on 250th@f5.6.

Hope that helps! :)
