Hi Chris and welcome, I am sure someone better qualified than me can comment on the Nikon kit as I shoot Canon. Seriously if you want to learn and don't have a specific shooting idea in mind (eg night football games) all the camera's of this style will work and produce results. You don't even need to start at 200 I started with a 350d for around 180 with two lenses. Yes you out grow it but you can always move it on and upgrade.

My other advice would be to find a good camera club, its a great way to learn, make friends and try loads of camera gear.

I started with D90 and love it. I still have it and shoot with it and have gotten some lovely images from it in a variety of different situations. If your just starting out and can find one in budget then I think its a very capable and great all round camera given they were still selling new with the kit lens for £650 at the back end of last year. There are many others however that would also got the bill which I am sure that others will advise you of. It may be worth advising what you plan to shoot mainly however, so that people can be more specific with their advise?

Don't do it....go with Canon instead!
Just kidding of course. ;)

I'm a Canon user so can't comment on the Nikons other than say that if you're considering a 70, 80 or 90 I think you'd be better off getting the 90 for the newer technology and higher resale value.
A friend uses a D90 and loves it.
Of course, the best thing to do would be try bodies from both Nikon and Canon as one might suit you better but if buying online that often isn't possible.

:plusone: for the D90.

I started with a D40 but the D90 is much better!

Whereabouts are you?
