worried about buying it online in case I buy it from a "dodgy" site :( Could anybody tell me where they bought their copies from? I currently have an old version of photoshop 5.5 and need the latest version as all the tuts use it.

Dont want to buy it from adobe as that is USA and would be a download as opposed to having the discs etc. Found this site which looks legit but who knows

Any help appreciated.

If I was going to be spending £500 or so on a program then it would be from a proper company that everyone has heard of or used before, for me Amazon seem to be good for me, cheaper than most and always deliver.

Spike

Have you checked Adobe's site for the cost of an upgrade from 5.5, it might be cheaper than buying outright.

Thanks Spike, my problem is that I equate amazon to ebay which is wrong cos I think amazon have stricter rules for their sellers. Certainly would nt buy software from ebay but will go and check out amazon. :)

Ooo, I just assumed that it was too old a version to be upgraded but will check that out too. Thanks Trev

If you buy it from amazon and not someone selling it then you should be ok, I have NEVER had any problems with amazon and bought quite a bit of stuff from them

Upgrade to CS4 from Photoshop 5 - £538.20

You do realise Adobe have websites for all the regions around the world? And that you can opt to have the discs delivered to you?

No :amstupid: just typed adobe into google and it came up with the american site

Thanks very much!

Thanks Grendel, thats about £50 cheaper but half of me is thinking that I should just get the full latest version and keep the old one as a backup so to speak. Am I right in thinking that you can only load it once because that was the case with the 5.5 version?

Unless the license has changed, you are entitled to put it on the main PC and a laptop that you also own.

I brought mine through adobe from the uk link and got a disc through the post. I did get it on a student licence though!

It might be worth waiting a few months, CS5 is lightly to make an appearence around April.

Dont the student versions expire after 12 months? I did an evening course for autocad and bought the student license but 12 months and 1 day later would not let me open it :'(

I am doing an evening class in photoshop starting jan, so presumeably I will get another student card which gives me the discount? Would be interested to know how long you have had your student version.

Thanks,

There are two acedemic versions of CS4 student and education, student is for students only and should be removed once the student has ceased studying, it is also not authorised for commercial use and does not come with a serial number and can not be upgraded. The second version and slightly more expnsive is the education edition, this can be purchased by students, facilty, teachers etc, this version can be used after completion of studying, can be used commercially, comes with a serial number and can be upgraded.

Education software here!

 there's no way I will have the self control to wait until april  guess I could pay for the upgrade if it is hugely different. For a complete beginner though, I probably would nt notice. Thanks for the suggestion :)

Thanks for the link Ed, think I will get the £195 education one if I am eligible and I guess I wont know that until I start the evening class in January. Definitely worth waiting though, just in case it saves me £400

Now I maybe dumb, but I would think you can only REGISTER it once, but load it on to as many machines as you like.

Nope. You can only have it live on one machine at a time, you have to deauthorise it on one machine before you can use it on the other. You can keep it installed on both but can only have one in use at a time.

I had a problem when my PC crashed wiping out my hard drive. Called Adobe with the serial number and they authorised my fresh install on my new PC :)

Sorry Ali, the licence for CS4 allows a 2nd copy to be installed on either a home computer (if the main computer is a business one) or a laptop provided that they are not both used at the same time, there is no requirement to deauthorise either copy before using the other.

Thanks,

No, once you have it its yours!. I brought mine last year and others I know the year before.

You have to send a copy of your student card to adobe. I got mine within about 3 days. Also I have on pc and laptop.

Thanks for that, hopefully I will qualify to get the education version which sounds my best bet and I would like it on my laptop and home pc.

How would they know, unless of course you can only use while connected to the internet, which sound a very limited product for people on the move.

It just won't work, comes up with a message telling you that you have to deauthorise the other install before you can use it.

Sorry Ed, my one is CS3 and I was not aware they had changed it. Might be worth me upgrading at some point because it's a major PITA for me not having it on the lappy as well as the beast at home.

Thanks for the info

I have my CS4 running on my Desktop and Laptop. Can run both at the same time if I want. No De-Auth needed at all. No internet needed either, other than 1st install to activate.

get it from jigsaw24 they are a very reliable company and i have bought off them many times, alot of the stuff they use is quite cheap because it is for commercial usage.

Just had a look and they are a lot cheaper! Could someone tell me what the difference between "CS4" and "CS4 extended" is? i.e. which one do I buy?

I have the student version of CS4 and LR2. The CS4 came from Academia, you install the software on your machine THEN send proof of eligability to Adobe and get your serial number which you type in within the 30 days. This version is £135 for CS4 photoshop (I already had CS3 design edition and couldn't justify CS4 design edition). The full design edition is £235. There is a clause about non commercial use but I have not seen anything about removing it if you cease to be a student just that you had to be one when you bought it!

I got my autocad from Academia doing exactly as you did, emailing them my student id etc. and they then sent the activation code, but it was the version that automatically expires after 12 months which is why I am nervous :( Think I will give them a call to confirm unlimited licence time. Have you had yours for more than 12 months? Also, have you put it on more than one computer i.e. laptop as well?

Many thanks.

Yes, I've had CS3 for about 2 years and CS4 photoshop since it was launched. I have it on the Mac pro and macbook pro. I don't think any Adobe student licences have time limits.

H I have had all my educational software from http://www.studica.com. Faxed over my student card and had software delivered within 2 days. They had the cheapest prices I could find at the time around £135 for cs4 extended. Went for the educational licence which includes the commercial use.

I got mine from studica too, very pleased with being legal :p

I buy a LOT of pc hardware and software from EBuyer. They're superb, great services and prices always competitive.
I've just had a look on there;

Student Photoshop Extended Cs4 Version 11-Mac-Dvd - End User Has To Prove Student Eligibility In Order To Install Product - £134.29 / 29 in stock

Adobe Photoshop CS4 - Upgrade package - 1 user - DVD - Win - International English - £168.48 / 24 in stock

Adobe Photoshop CS4 - Complete package - 1 user - DVD - Mac - International English - £567.68 / 23 in stock

Also a great site for little things like memory cards, cables, etc as they do a free postage service

Hope this helps (my first bit of advice!!)

Excellent because I have just found out today that the evening course will not entitle me to a student card :bang: However, Studica will sell to any student so I will "borrow" my mates daughters student card ;)

I got my student discount from adobe with a confirmation letter from the college that I was enrolled (it was only a 2 hour a week course but the letter does not have to say that).

Thanks for your help jh. Think I will be going with the studica option as they seem the least strict
