Hi All,

I have a hard drive that is full of pictures in various folders and sub folders, none of then dated.

What I am looking for is a bit of software that can read the pictures exif data and place the pictures into folders by month/year.

Something that I can load the pictures into and leave to do its job would be great.

Does any such software exist?

Any recommendations?

Thanks in advance.

Take care,

Keith

Your best bet would be to have someone script it for you.

If I understand correctly then Lightroom will do this - iirc it is it's default method of storing images. You would have to import all of the photos into lightroom and tell it to copy the files to a new location. I'd create a folder called images and use that as the root ....

I'd probably do it with Lightroom too.

Or maybe not ... here's another approach. I have a really useful FREE tool called Bulk Rename Utility. Get it here. You can use this to rename all your images so that the filename contains the date and/or time they were taken. For example IMG_0912.JPG could become 20131004-IMG_0912.JPG or 2013-10-04-18:06:11-IMG_0912.JPG or anything similar. It would be very easy to dump them all into one folder, rename, sort into chronological order, move into separate folders, and then remove the date/time from the filenames. It would take you 10 minutes, tops.

Lightroom will do it. Can store the pictures as a year, year and month, or year, month and day if you want.

Oops should have read the other replies.

Thanks for all the suggestions guys, much appreciated.

Take care,

Keith
