Hi All,

I'm looking to get my first Digi SLR after using my film and a borrowed digi SLR for my photography course. My film SLR is a Nikon F55 and has served me well but I think I'm leaning towards a Canon for the digi as I borrowed a 350d and a 400d before which I found easy to use but I'm after something that's a step up than a beginner's as I've also used the 1000 but found it wasn't as good as the 400d strangely.
I know that if I can get a good lens it will transform the camera so it isn't all about the body but I only have around £350 to spend and have been looking on Ebay for some good bargains.

I just really want some recommendations as Ebay is a bit of a mindfield and I would like the 'real' model rather than an import which some of them can be.
I appreciate all advice,
Thanks :D

Personally I would avoid ebay for that reason, its a minefield. OK budget £350, well you could get a reasonable setup for that.

The canon 350D about £130
The canon 400D about £170
The canon 30D about £210
The canon 450D about £240

All good model. It depends how compact you want the controls, with the 30D being a slightly larger camera to hold. Prices are used and for the body only, so you'll need a lens to go with it. Depending on which body you get depends how much £££ you have left over for a lens, but start with 1 and build when you have saved up some more ££.

But example canon 350D (£130) and 28-135mm f3.5-5.6 (£199) would be within you budget and a good starter for 10.

or a 18-55mm f3.4-5.6 IS MKII (£84) and canon 450D (£240) would work as well.

The 30D the next level of camera up from the XXXD range. Bigger camera, magnesium body, better (faster) autofocus, better ISO control, but it still showing its age, as current model is a 60D, but don't let that put you off as I'm still using a 20D.

That's if you were to go for a canon. Alternatives are Nikon, personally I would go with the Nikon D80, you might be able to fit you old film lenses on this camera as its got a built in focus motor in the camera, rather than the lens, which I think a major limitation of some of Nikon's camera range. £270 check out the link below.
