With our little boy at 2 months now, we are looking to get some pro baby photos done.

Questions:
- what to look out for
- what should be in the package bundle (if any)
- prices

- any recommendations in Bristol?

Upon this we will look to do a cool family style one when the little chap is slightly older and can sit up etc.

found one local (a friend used them before for wedding)

£30 a photo session
minimum spend £50 (not sure how photo's are broken out individually in price, will find out)

just found out the prices and they aren't cheap!

£20 per 7x5" is the cheapest item
or 3 for £50

I thought when I was looking for Wedding packages they expensive, but in comparison it was cheaper as more time and more photos!

OK, if a scaffolder can spend £50 on a spanner & spirit level and then charge £30 per hour for his time, why do you see that a pro photographer who has spent £x000's on kit, who has to pay for the running a studio, charges £30 for an hour of his time, and then £50 for hand crafted items (which will take an hour to get ready, print, mount and ship) as expensive??

If the portfolio of the tog looks appealing, book him and pay up!!!

Sorry

As above, you need to rethink what you believe is expensive for pro portrait photography. I concider my prices cheap, and my session fee is £35

Add a zero and I would agree, but come on.... these are excellent prices for a pro quality service

i guess i was expecting more package options like on weddings

i've seen something i like, so thanks

I think you need to invest in good coffee and cakes and host a TP meet.

You're a photographer. Why aren't you doing it yourself?

Why don't you have a go yourself?

I did these three recently:

They were all taken with my nifty fifty at 1.8, iso 800, can't remember the shutterspeed but was about 1/60 or thereabouts. Now, these are the first attempts at baby portraits and not my usual subject, they aren't perfect but they look ok to me (especially printed out), and they weren't that hard. Have a go, you might surprise yourself.

They're a bit soft by the way as they've been posted to facebook, then later on I grabbed them again to save to my work pc and then uploaded to photobucket so I could post them here. The originals look a lot better :D

Couldn't agree more. Lenses, lighting etc are not cheap.

When I first got into photography I hired a tog for a day, he brought the lights and equipment and set it up in a room above a pub.

I got half a day's lesson on studio photograhy and my wife and kids came in for the afternoon and we both took photos. He gave me a dozen or so of his best processed JPEGs, with non commercial rights to print them and, of course, I had all my photos.

He was happy with his commercial daily rate which, I think, was £350.

Maybe somebody here local to you would be happy with a similar arrangement?
