Ideally you need both to properly edit images to completion IMHO ....
If you haven't the latest camera whose raw files NEED the latest versions I would recommend LR3 and CS5 which you can probably get secondhand
Be prepared to have to put some work in mastering both - but your results will benefit
I have a canon 1d mk2 , but needing both is annoying
Cannot see why you really need both LR and PSE to be honest, if you have DPP and PSE
Need both! Utter balderdash!
Lightroom with Photoshop Elements should do 99.9999% of what you'll want to do. There's no point at all in splashing out the extra cash for the full version of PS. I'd love to know what CS5 can do that LR/PSE11 cannot.
Hows does lr differ from dpp?

Really ..... interesting opinion

Well, I was sort of hoping that somebody might list two or three of the essential features of CS5 that make it so essential. Just posting a link to a marketing droids meaningless chart (PSE doesn't have a 'Non-destructive Editing Environment'?? Strange, I thought it included Adobe Camera Raw.)
Other things that PSE11 lacks, according to that BS table -
- Imaging magic (Marketing BS) with Content-Aware tools
- Intelligent selection and masking
- State-of-the-art image processing controls
- Highlight and shadow recovery
- Selective editing brushes for adjusting specific photo areas
- Support for exporting hundreds of image file formats
Now I don't own PSE, but I've used it and I'm pretty sure that even PSE10 included most, if not all, of those.
So, those who reckon CS is essential - what three 'essential' features of CS5 (or CS6) are lacking in PSE11?
Does elements let you write actions yet?
Need both! Utter balderdash!
