Looking to get a new monitor for my MacbookPro to hook up as a primary display.

Need a res bigger than 1920x1080 becasue its a silly aspect ratio, and programs like Logic don't like it properly.

not sure if looking for 22'' or bigger. Budget isn't set really.

What is everyone else using?

Simon

24" Dell U2410, but not on a Mac. 1920x1200....

what do you mean not on a mac? you can connect any monitor...

Yes, I know, but I'm just putting up full disclosure that I'm not using it on a Mac in case you were explicitly looking for comments from people who use a monitor on a Mac ;)

In what way does Logic Pro 9 not "like" 1920x1080 native resolution displays?
Specs call for 1280x768 or higher, and the image shown is it on a MBP.
Looks fine from where I'm sitting.

Specs mean nothing.

1920x1080 is a 16:9 res, 'pro' apps, do not and will not show all their palettes in a display of that aspect ratio.

I'm not saying it wouldn't work at that res, but try using it at both and see how much easier it is with a 16:10 display

I wasn't suggesting specs were the be all end all, but if you look at the imagery on Apple's site for the software, it looks fine.
If you're going to be using a second display, then wouldn't you be able to move the palette to it?
A pre-owned ACD will have the old 16:10 ratio you're seeking - http://support.apple.com/specs/#displays

or you could get a good screen..

:D

edit - i suppose i should justify that before i get an earful..

yes the latest versions of the ACD from the 2010 model is an IPS panel but the old 2005 ACD was the only model to offer "Antiglare" coating.

2008 − 24" version of the 27" 2010 model.
Bear in mind the usage here is audio via Logic Pro, so IPS' WA viewing is immaterial.

???? We really do read things differently.

I see that Logic (Pro?) doesn't fit a 16:9 screen, but I don't see anywhere which states that's the primary usage, just one reason to dismiss a 16:9 screen.............

Well spotted Andy, I'd not re-read the op, so the "programs like" bit wasn't retained in memory - so sue me! :p

BTW, did you come in to offer advice to the OP, or because you seen my name as the most recent poster?

This is my 4th post in this thread.

I live in this part of the forum - I have waaaayyy more computer equipment than camera - I haven't picked up a camera since before Christmas (so sue me ;) :p)

i was more picking at the fact the latest screens double as mirrors.

Seen that mentioned at the time the changeover was introduced, but it's not been an issue for my 21.5" mirror, even after a bout of EyeOne calibrating.
Like most things in life, people will find what bugs one person, is of no concern to them, and vice versa.

What difference would it make?

No hump was got :)

Come on guys, what else are people using?!

Main screen: Eizo ColorEdge CG303W.
Secondary Screen: Dell 2007FP in portrait mode.

Nice combo this, as the little Dell on it's side is exactly the same height physically, and also in resolution (1200x1600) to match my main screen (2560x1600) Makes for a nice 3760x1600 desktop.
