Hi there,

Well I am guessing a lot of you wont know me, I used to be on here a lot, but due to other commitments and recent events I havent really used my camera this year. The reason I am wanting help is that my brother and girlfriend are going to Kenya on safari in a months time, and they are borrowing our kit which we have given them some information on, but I was wondering if anyone knew of any online tutorials that would be useful to them for our canon kit :)
Hopefully when they get back I will start using my own kit again.

All help grateful.

Well for me the obvious place to start would be to see if there is anything suitable on TP :D as I know they are setting up some new ones.

This is the web site for Canon beginners FAQs and may lead to other useful pages. I used it a lot when I first started
http://photonotes.org/articles/beginner-faq/

and the following site was the one I found most useful for a beginner as it exlained aperture, DoF etc in an easy to understand way for me
http://www.photoxels.com/digital-photography-tutorials.html

hope these help

I have obviously been looking around this site for him, but thank you for the other ideas.

Hi Sue

I think the other thing I would add (having spent over 8 months on safari taking pictures in the last decade) is to get them to practice, practice, practice. If possible, go on a zoo day to try taking animal pics before they go. Also, practice being steady and gently squeezing the shutter. Generally, the best pictures in Africa are taken just after dawn and just before dusk.

Hope that helps

Paul

Think they are taking most of our kit really, matts 30d with 100-400 on, which my brother has been playing with today, in the garden getting birds and things like that, then my 400d with 28-105, 10-20 and 50 so a reasonable selection I think. I have told him to keep practicing and warned him the stiller he can keep it in low light and more practice in that kind of light before they go the better. Have tried to go through the basics with them so I know the practice is the best thing, was just wanting some info for them to read as well.
