Hi Guys

I'm heading to the National Space Centre in Leicester, UK this weekend. I've been there a couple of times in the past and know it can be quite dark/gloomy looking in there so shooting sharp images has always been a pain without a flash, even for my fast primes and high-ish ISO's

A friend recently bought me a Yongnuo YN565EX and would really like to take it with me but I don't have much experience shooting with a flash at all so I'm looking for a bit advice really on what settings I should be aiming at.

I'll be using it with a Canon 450D, a 28mm f1.8 and 50mm f1.4. From the reading I've done I don't think I'll be able to bounce any light off the ceiling as it will be too high in many places so am I right in thinking I could use the built in bounce card to help bounce the light where I want it or would a diffuser or something else be a good idea?

Finally, would I be best to leave the flash on ETTL to let it meter and figure out what it needs to do? What kind of ISO/F stops should I be looking at to use in conjunction with the flash?

Thanks in advance :)

Hi Martin,

You have bonus here as you have already been and taken shots, I would upload one of the photos from previous visits and confirm all the setting used to get the shot...

We could then help a little more with what kind of settings would possible work..

If your unable to bounce off a near wall or celling the you could use a bounce card which might be built into the flash (a white bit of plastic where you pull out the diffuser thing)

otherwise strap a bit of card to the flash head...

this will give you an idea...http://www.themoment2cherish.com/DIY-Bounce-Card/

Thanks for the reply :)

I'll try and find a shot from the last time I went and upload when I get home from work. The flash I have does have a built in bounce card. I realize much of this may be trial and error on the day but would I need to increase the power of the flash to accommodate the bounce card?

If you using ETTL then the flash will/should do all the work for you
