Hi all,

Wondering if anyone can help me. My dad has an mp3 player, no idea where he got it from, but its a 512mb player, basically a usb stick with controls on the side. It works in such a way that it is just drag and drop to put mp3 files onto it, once plugged into his pc. Then he unplugs it, sticks his headphones in and away he goes.

Now as you can imagine, 512mb capacity is a bit small these days and he has mentioned this a few times, he has to keep taking tracks off and replacing them with others etc. So I would like to get him a new, larger capacity player that works in the same way. He's not techy at all and it took a while to get him used to how to put files on and delete them off the stick he has.

Does anyone know of any good players that work in the same way? I have been searching around a little today and not come up with anything at all.

Thanks in advance.

Good options seem rare these days, as everything has switched to what I would call "proper" mp3 players such as iPods and that style of device. Usb stick versions seem harder and harder to find. Thanks very much. Wonder what other ones are out there.

Looks like one of the other Sony players, albeit not a usb stick style allows simply drag and drop functionality - http://www.pcworld.co.uk/gbuk/tv-dv...-player-with-fm-radio-black-21729441-pdt.html

Guess they just connect via a usb cable.

I have never used a non Apple mp3 player apart from this usb stick one my dad has, so sorry if this may have sounded like a silly question just want sure how they worked.

Well if it is the drag and drop that is the clincher rather than the usb stick styling then pretty much any non Apple device will fit the bill. Only Apple makes you go through the pain of using iTunes just to get your music on the device.

I think i have a Sony one brought it years, its 1gb and it just drag and drop MP3 and take an single AAA battery :)

Haha, yeah it seems that way doesn't it :) Hadn't realised everything else was just simple plug in, drag and drop, assumed they all has some kinda management software that went with them. Excellent news indeed, especially for the person who it is for! Whats good for sound quality and ease of use? Complicated menu systems will be a faff, anything with simple play, pause, back, forward buttons etc would be excellent. I mean it can have a screen lol. Just trying to keep things simple and ultimately usable with good sound.

Yeah I think my dads current one runs off a single AAA or maybe 2.

I've had the old 4GB version of this for many years. It's always worked fine and the interface is pretty straightforward (I think it defaults to 'play everything').

This version looks pretty similar, but has 8GB and the option of adding a microSD card.
Adding files is dragon drop in Windows Explorer.

With regards to sound quality, buy some decent headphones/earphones rather than use the supplied ones.
Sennheiser CX300s are currently serving this role for me, but there are plenty of other options around.

Agree, I have a sansa fuze and been using it for a few years.

Another vote for the sansa clip. Excellent sound quality and reasonably priced!

I have a Sony touchscreen with side buttons for controlling in pocket, drag drop file system and easy create playlists large memory and excellent quality.

Thanks for all the replies so far! Personal recommendations and experience are an excellent way of getting the right product :)

Just thought I would update this thread after all the help I received from you all. I just picked up the - from Amazon on a lightening deal which wasn't a bad price! What swung it in the end was the storage expandability via inserting a micro sd card which will be good if he needs to store more than the internal 8gb. And also the FM tuner, so he will be able to listen to the football on a Saturday afternoon. Neat little device really :)

SanDisk SDMX26-008G-G46K Clip Jam MP3 Player - 8 GB, Black

I note from looking on the Sandisk site it is micro usb for charging/connecting to your pc. What charger would you guys recommend for charging off the mains? It doesn't come with one so thought I would ask to see what you guys recommend.

My one is the old style one and has a different charging port. But the one I bought for my aunt I gave her my mobile phone charger and that does the trick.
