Hi everyone.

I'm looking for something small i can sling across my shoulder and back, that would take a 200mm lens small camera and maybe a waterbottle.

I have looked at the small National Geographic sling bags, but wondered if there was anything else? Maybe in the military side of things.

I don't want a backpack as i don't have enough gear to warrent one and besides i have had one before.

Has anyone got any suggestions?

It has to be a sling style bag, preferably camo or neutral colors, for the outdoors.

This is the type of thing i am looking for, but more something that lies across your back not your front and maybe a little smaller than this.

Couldn't you just wear it the other way round? :naughty: :exit:

That doesnt look like it would take a 200mm, especially if it was smaller!

I had to go a for mid size National Geographic shoulder bag to fit my Sigma 200mm.

it doesent, does it? but it has room for a zoom lens and something else, so you could probably fit it in. id recommend trying to find one ot have a look at in person

same to the OP. personally i think itd be a rather snug fit, if a fit at all

Doesnt look like that bag would be big enough for an SLR and 200mm lens.

How about the Lowepro Exchange Messenger? You can see the size in this video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SBC-HziYGGk

Or Crumpler do the messenger boy in a few small sizes

Thanks for that, but it has got to be a sling back, not a messenger bag, so it has to be a snug fit to the body and cannot be loose.

I also do not have a DSLR so size for my camera is not an issue, its just the lens.

Maxpedition will have something to suit you. Either this; http://www.heinnie.com/Bags-and-Wal...dition-Remora-Gearslinger/p-281-289-577-2134/ or one of the Versipacks; http://www.heinnie.com/Bags-and-Wal...llets/Maxpedition-Versipacks/c-1-281-289-578/ I've had a few and they were all good bags. Maxpedition stuff is always smaller than it looks in the pictures though, I warn you now. Have a look in the airsoft shop on Rochester High Street by Northgate too, they stock 5.11 bags - I think it's the Push pack that is their equivalent.

If they don't suit let me know and I'll find something else - I'm a bit of a bag whore and have tried just about everything tacti-cool. :D

The sort of bag that's designed for a 200mm lens will be designed with a dslr in mind for obvious reasons. And they are big because 200mm, especially 2.8 lenses, are big.

That's why I had to buy a new bag when j got my 70-200 siggy.

Yep...if you're talking a 70-200 or 80-200 lens, then you're talking a bigger bag than the one pictured. I had a Tamron sling bag that I was pretty pleased with, but gave it to my son when I passed on some of my gear. In my experience with the Nikkor 70-200 VRII you're going to need a mid-sized bag for that type of lens, typically.

Finally someone who knows what i am looking for. You hit the spot there, thanks for the links.

I have been in the Army shop a few weeks ago as its fairly new, my kind of shop, but i couldn't find anything there. Might go down and have another look now.

Thanks again.

I know this might be a little different to what you're looking for, but have you looked at Thom Bihn? I came across a couple of bags suitable for cameras as I was on the hunt for an iPad bag, I'll try and dig out some links

I've got a Tom Bihn Synapse that works pretty well as a camera bag - with a bit of jiggery pokery it could be very good. The build of it is excellent too, as good as Kifaru (which is saying something). Some pics here; http://s114.photobucket.com/albums/n275/yellowhammer_01/Tom Bihn Synapse/?start=all

Out of interest, how many bags have you got?

I don't like to say as the girlfriend uses this computer. 'Lots' just about covers it though. It's a constant search for the right bag and its not cheap.

I feel happy talking about it here as I'm not likely to get grief about an expensive, gear-based hobby from you lot am I?

Lol, I'd hope not! :)

love it. thanks guys, i think i have found the bag i am looking for on the link you supplied, so thanks for that.

Am loving the amount of gear you have too.

You should see the rest of it I haven't uploaded yet... :D

What did you decide on if you don't mind me asking?

I can't decide, its a tough call between the EDC Versipack and the Remora.

I like both designs and they are perfect for what i want, simple design, tough and durable, lightweight to carry around where-ever i need to go, and it wont get in the way, if i have to climb a tree,or get into a tight spot with a ghillie suit.

If you want to wear it slung on your back nearly all the time go for the Remora. The EDC has a waist belt to stop it flapping but it won't carry on your back quite as well.

The older original Jumbo Versipacks have a snow collar inside, which the EDC doesn't. Most people hate it but I quite liked mine. It gives a bit more protection to your stuff.

Gods, I'm such a nerd. :D

Thanks, the Remora was winning, lol... I like all the designs to be honest.

I've tried every combination of words on google to try and find what i want, and you come up with a whole website, lmao.

I haven't got any Maxpud stuff left otherwise I'd offer to show you. You know you can add all sorts of additional pouches on the sides and back as well don't you? The webbing rows there are PALS grids for attachment. One of these is handy for a water bottle; http://www.heinnie.com/Bags-and-Wal...n-Bags-Mini-Rolly-Poly-Bag/p-281-289-580-482/ I might have some bits you can have depending on what you go for.

My girlfriend has just wandered past, seen what I was doing and just rolled her eyes and walked off sighing. :D
