Yes
I used my 35mm f1.8 lens on Saturday in low light conditions and the results are a lot better than my 18-105 lens.

Now I know they would be but I do need that extra reach that a 18-105 gives me.

My budget will not go to a nikon 24-70 f2.8 but what zoom would produce better results in low light conditions, than my 18-105.

Thanks

The Nikon 17-55mm f2.8 would be a great replacement for the shorter end but wouldn't reach as far as your 18-105mm.

Thanks for the answers guys. To be honest, the nikon 17-55 would be out side my budget as well.

I guess I want the impossible and that is a good low light zoom, that would perform better in low light than my 18-105.

Theres always the used market.
The 17-55 2.8 goes for around £500 used these days or theres the Tamron 17-50 2.8 which is a very good lens for the cash at around £200 - £250 used:)
On a D90, the Tamron is a very good lens and works well but most people would say stay away from the VC version. (I've had the non VC on a D90 and loved it)

Just buy a 85mm 1.8 - along with your 35mm you will have enough flex (cropping) to cover your bases, albeit will require a lens change occasionally.

When I replaced my 18-55 I went with a used 17-55 2.8 (about £600 mint from a dealer iirc) for the 2.8 aperture and solid build. I considered the Tamron lens but wanted proper AF-S with full time manual override which it didn't offer.

I considered the Nikon 16-85 VR, both Tamron 17-50s, and also the Sigma OS lens. The Nikon 17-55 is an older lens now but is still better than the budget options if you can run to one. Not massively better admittedly but I guess it depends on your needs.

What is your budget?

Without knowing hard to say but if nikon is out then tamron 17-50 or 28-75

Agree with this as an option, I love my 85 1.8, it is a brilliant lens
