Good afternoon All,

New here and relatively new to DSLR's (had my 450D for about 10 months).

I sold my kit lens and bought a Sigma 17-70mm f2.8-4.5 DC Macro Lens for a general walkabout lens and I also got a Canon EF 50mm f1.8 II as it was recommended by a friend, which takes breathtaking pics of my kids, especially for the price, but now I'm finding myself wanting something more with some more zoom, as I travel a lot and encounter some amazing wildlife.

After looking around on the web and on here, I'm left more bewildered than ever... I'm looking in the £200 price range (I'd be willing to pay a little more if there was a clear favourite), which cuts down the options quite a bit, but there's still quite a range, I'd also be up for getting second hand.

A friend of mine bought a Sigma 70-300mm f4-5.6 APO Macro for his Nikon as it has a macro function but I don't really want onother macro lens that isn't really a macro, and I've heard this lens is a bit soft beyond 200mm (is this right?).

Could anyone point me in a suitable direction or give a recommendation... even if it's a 'this lens is ace >insert name of lens here<, new it's out of your price range but hang on for a second hand one, you won't regret it'.

Thanks for reading....

Mike.

I doubt that you would regret looking at the Canon 55-250mm IS lens which should be available for around £170ish.

I couldn't agree more. For your modest budget, I would reccomend one of these. I've had one for about 18 months and it's a great little lens for wildlife.
