Hi,

I currently have a pair of 22" screens and am happy with one of them but the other is a little dated, so I'll leave one for web etc but get the other upgraded for a Christmas pressie.

My current thinking is that I'll look at a budget of around £300 or less preferably, with IPS (I'm not a first person gamer so I can live with 5ms) and I understand the colour reproduction is very good so will be good for photo processing too, and if at all possible something over my current 1920x1080 resolution - although it might me nice I'm not that bothered about 4k as I read the refresh rate is pretty poor on 4Ks at the moment.

It would be nice if it could rotate to portrait but in all honestly I'd do that once in a red moon, so its not that important.

Any ideas as there are so many I'm a bit lost!

Cheers.

One of these maybe (link)

BenQ GW2765HT LED IPS 27 -inch W Monitor 16:9 2560 x 1440, 1000:1, 20M:1, 4 ms GTG, DVI/DP1.2/HDMI1.4/speakers - Black & Glossy Black

Being trying to make the same decision. Dell UltraSharp U2515H currently gets my vote. Being 25" gives it a nice PPI and closer viewing distance than a 27".
Reviews well on Tftcentral and the UltraSharp range have always had a good rep.
Would love to justify buying the Acer Predator xb270hu for the best of everything but price is north of £500...

Save a little more and get one of those 34" Ultra Wide screens...

Thanks guys but £500 is well over budget and 34" wouldn't fit on my desk as well, plus I'm not convinced by the ultrawides as I don't watch films on the PC (and the cheapest I'd seen a 34" UW was going on for £400)

I've looked more into the Dell and now it's got tough, as previously I'd thought all the sub 27" Dells were 1920x1080. So now I have to consider if 25" is for me

I have a dell. I think it's 28". It's at 1920x1200 resolution which I find much more useful, the extra vertical pixels are a great bonus for photoshop etc. Plus it's not as taxing on the graphics card as a 2056 pixel one.

Also the colour accuracy is very good out of the box. I'll look up the model number when I get home. Almost certain it came in under your budget.

I've just started playing Warcraft again and that looks great on it. :-)

Okay, a bit of a technical question regarding the U2515H.

I have a GeForce GTX 470, resolution wise its supported but it had 2x DVI and a Mini HDMI, the monitor apparently has 2x HDMI (MHL) ports, a DisplayPort an a mini-DisplayPort - all this leads me to wonder were I to get one how would I connect it and get the max resolution.

DVI to HDMI converter, however my advice would be upgrade your VGA card too. I play MMO a lot Warcraft Eve and many others world of tanks world of warships and your card may struggle at higher res, I use the LG IPS 27 inch which is fine for gaming, but I've recently splashed out on the Retina IMac so now have a spangly 5k screen, I can run some games in 5k but I can't see the icons then lol, so I mainly use 2xxx x 1xxx res and get around 50 to 70 FPs which is more than enough. If I drop it down I go over 100.

I'm not an Nvidia fan as I always have issues with them shoddy drivers, dropping back to desktop intermittently all the annoying niggles, so I moved to ATI and in the 10 years I've had ATI vs Nvidia ati gets my vote by miles.... My current PC Card is the R290 after I sold a GTX770 for the shoddy drivers and screen lock ups in WOW, known issue but as always Nvidia passed the blame to Microsoft and didn't address it fast enough, weird ATI never had that issue

Get a second hand Dell 3008WFP, heck there is a 3011WFP that fits within your budget. Add the DVI dualink support from your graphics card and you have a superb combination. And before you say it, the size is less than two of your current 22s yet great screen real estate.

Thanks guys - I'm really wanting to keep two screens though as I find it invaluable to play full screen on one and have info\work on the other and I'm pretty happy with the gfx card at the mo - and too cheap to spend another £300 ;)

I'm looking further into DVI to HDMI to make sure the res is supported.

I've not found the 3011WFP (on Amazon) but will keep looking

EDIT: lol, how ignorant was I - I thought dual link meant I had to use both DVIs to one screen... d'oh, still now I know :)

Damn that took some digging - the GTX470 is HDMI 1.3a which offers support up to 2560×1600p/60 Hz, as the U2515H is 1.4 that should be fine.

I guess I'm still a bit concerns about the 8ms, but it'll probably be fine for MMOs (DDO in my case)

Should be fine then

I was wrong. Mines a Dell U2415 - 24" monitor. More than big enough for me though, great display and you can get one for around £220 from Amazon

Well after a huge amount of research and comparatives, it came down to one thing in the end - which one will definitely work?

Dell while it "should" work fine seemed to need special custom configs and high quality HDMi etc... so in my mind the question became - will the Dell work 100% for sure and as I just couldn't tell with enough certainty to have it as a Christmas pressie, so I eventually knocked it off the list - now only the BenQ is left :)

Happy day, a decision.
