Hi,

I'm looking for a good book for portrait photography. I've been doing photography for a long time so I have all fundamental knowledge but I'm pretty much completely new to portraiture.

Other books I've read and enjoyed include: Understanding Exposure, The Photographer's Eye, Photographers guide to CSx so something along the lines of those would be perfect.

Also if there are any books that are great for just one aspect i.e. studio lighting then please recommend those to.

Thanks in advance,

Kane

Try Scott Kelby's Digital Photography box set, 3 books. Not specifically on portraiture but they do help.

I always found browsing flickr was helpful too, specifically looking at the portrait groups and checking out EXIF and strobist info on the images I liked.

Joe McNally's book 'The moment it clicks' is a really good book that goes into the inspiration behind photos. Admittedly most of his stuff is photojournalism, but he's got some cracking portraits in there.

Obviously nailing the technical stuff is very important, but a well posed boring photo, is still a boring photo - dont forget to think about what's behind the shot!
