Hi all

Looking to possibly buy my wife a new compact camera for Christmas as her current Sony (a DSC-W100 I think) doesn't seem to be working so well these days - focusing seems poor indoors, even with flash, and she's sure lens is clean etc....

So wondered if anyone has any recommendations for one? Looking to spend between £100-£200 really... would struggle to go above the £200 mark though. Needs to be fairly small to easily fit in handbags etc, movie mode useful, and easy to use. This will be mainly for catching the kids and general out and about snappery.

Happy to switch manufacturers - always been happy with Fuji in the past but willing to look at Canon or any others too!

Thanks in advance!

Ben

No but I'm looking to get one myself. It seems to get pretty good reviews for such a small compact.

If you can get a Canon S95 in budget, I can recommend it.

My compact is a Panasonic Lumix FX500 (Leica lens). Ive had it a number of years, it has been a great compact and i have no intention of replacing it.

The current equivelent is the FX700 model but it is £280. I would personally look at the Panasonic DMC-FS37 as it is in your price range (albeit at the top end).

:)

which one did the Op get in the end?

Canon Ixus 220 looks like it might be okay - right price range on Amazon.... anyone got one of these?!

I got one yesterday and it's a brilliant little camera. The HS technology really shows and I'm loving the slow motion!

Gman... how is yours in auto mode.. sometimes i think it needs the flash but it will not let you select it in auto??

Yes, I would also recommend Canon S95! I think it's better than IXUS 220. But if you don't need the control and just shoot auto the IXUS 220 would be good enough!

It lets me disable or enable flash in auto. I hold the flash button down a little longer and it seems to work!

Canon S95. Just got one myself. Well impressed. Much lighter than my 7D too :)
