Sorry if this has been done to death.

We're after some form of cheap black background for use for low key portait shots to go with are 1 flash strobist kit. It will be used in a spare bedroom (no bed). Was thinking maybe some form of fabric attached to the picture rail and across the floor?

I've also spotted these very cheap kits of ebay. Ok I'm guessing the quality reflects the price but would it be suitable for someone using it for a hoby?

If you are looking to attach something to a picture rail, then you won't need the stand. You could get away with something like a curtain pole suspended from the picture rail.

For a background, some black muslin fabric would be ideal, fold over the top 4-6 inches of the fabric and then sew/wondaweb this to create a channel for the curtain pole to slid through. If you can cope with a 2m width in the room that should be enough, then maybe 4-5 metres drop so you have a backdrop and also a train for the floor.

That should work out a little cheaper, although a little work.

Well, the first ebay one has sold 90 odd, and has a good feedback score...
