Looking at buying a mac

If dell is the brand, then apple is the brand in that case. Mac is the product: Dell PC / Apple Mac - mac is certainly not a brand.

I really don't think you will ever grasp it. Never mind eh ;)
 
In fact, maybe you are right. Jaguar cars and Honda cars were always different, until Honda made their seat covers out of cow skin just like the jaguar. Now they are the same product but different brands.
 
Obviously my Jag isn't a car then, it's a Jag... And wees all over those things called cars... ;)

(Dell perhaps wasn't the best choice for the pedantic in you. Lets try a Sony Vaio, is a Vaio a PC? ;))
 
No, it's a series. Like apples 'macbook', 'imac', 'pro' series of 'products'.

You will never get it. Just leave it at that. It's getting a bit boring and geeky for my liking
 
Not really, all Sony computers, be they laptops, desktops or all in ones, are called Vaios, just like all Apples computers are called macs...*

So, either a Vaio isn't a PC (and a mac isn't a PC) or a Vaio is a PC and a mac is a PC... (and if Vaios and macs aren't PCs then a large number of computers we call PCs at the moment aren't PCs either!)

Next you'll be arguing a macbook isn't a laptop... :lol:

*With the Vaios you then have the letter series, for example the X series, which are essentially comparable to "macbook", "pro" and "imac"...

You've turned a genuine thread into a 'i haven't got a mac so I will say a pc is better' battle of crap like so many others dotted around the net.

amp and flicker these have got to be the saddest postings i've seen for a long time are you guys serious? you are arguing about a pathetic naming process. Have a bit of decorum will you, it's embarrassing.

i think you know exactly what each other means. ok technically yes a mac is a personal computer but you do realise for a number of years the way the world has distinguished between them is to call apple pc's "macs" and anything that runs windows a "pc". thats just the way people have been referring to them, and i think you know this.

when the sentence that you can't run osx legitimately on a pc is made what is meant by that is that apple wont legitimately allow osx to be installed on anything but an apple pc, but again i think you know this, seems like you're just arguing for the sake of it
