Yes
Had a bit of PPI luck and after splitting with SWMBO I will have £1750 to spend on a D600. Looking at Panamoz prices I could get the body for £1070 or the kit for £1400. The question is do I get the body with kit lens or do I go for other options lens wise? With the bundle I could also get a nifty fifty and maybe the SB700.
Also a consideration is the 24-120 or Tamron 24-70 2.8 (have read good and bad reviews for both.
Ideally the nikon 24-70 would be the dream team but that takes me over the limit.
My current kit is a 5100 with DX lenses so nothing transferable.
Any other suggestions for lenses? Not looking at longer zooms yet but will in the future.

Thanks in anticipation:thumbs:

24 70 tamron vc has had some great reviews. 850 ish on amazon

The tamron 24-70 VC looks very good for the price. Otherwise a couple of nice Nikon primes maybe? Like the 28 1.8 and a 50mm 1.4 maybe?

Was also considering primes but not sure of the price of 24 mm. The 85 will also be an option in the future.
The Tamron is great value but would like some comments of any owners.

I've not used it, I have the Nikon 24-70, but on DX I used a tamron 17-50 constantly. It was as good IMHO as the Nikon 17-55 2.8, in every way bar build .

The tamron is a good price too at panamoz. The nikon kit lens has had mixed reviews. If u are going nikon get the f2.8.

Have the 17-50 myself and as you say it is a lovely lens and very sharp. I have no doubt that anything would equal Nikons 24-70 but for £400 difference I could possibly live with not so sharp edges.

You also benefit from the VC - not so much use really at 24mm, but as you zoom to the 70mm end it could come in handy for shutter speeds below 1/60 [great for video]

I think if you can stretch your budget to the D600 with the Nikon 24-70 f/2.8 you'd have a great set up.

If you sell the D5100 and Dx lenses can you stretch to the Nikon 24-70 I wonder? even find one used? they do pop up now and then even here, in classified. Have seen them go for £950 or so

For sure the 24-70 option would be the ultimate set up. Also having a think on cageys suggestion about a few primes.

I upgrade from D5100 (although I did have some Fx lenses) and I got the 24-85 kit lens. Very impressed with it so far. Nice and sharp. Was surprised to read some bad reviews since having it actually.

I'd go for that and a prime, 50 or 85 for now.

Your DX lenses will work in the d600 btw. It crops automatically when it detects a DX lens. Obv you lose resolution though, to 10mp I think but still a short term option.

Get the D600 from Panamoz and the Tamron 24-70 VC.

If you pay by bank transfer and so can get the 5% discount then it comes in just below your budget.

Then flog your D5100 & lenses and get a flash & the 50mm f1.8 which I think are both must haves.

Why buy FX to shoot with DX lenses though? better to just sell them on to fund better FX glass.

I've just ordered 2 primes myself this week, a 35mm 1.4 and 85mm 1.8G, looking forward to shooting prime again. I like to change lenses now and then, keep it fresh. The 24-70 stays though, as my general all-rounder, those times I only take one lens out.

I could probably live without it,but it's such a nice lens to hold and use, I'd find it hard sell.

Slight curve ball but has anyone used the 24-85 afs ed which can be picked up pretty cheap and has some great reviews. An option that would leave me open for a couple of primes.

Which version? There was a 2.8-4, and a 3.5-4.5, I think? Both would be grand I guess. Like an FX kit lens I suppose. Good enough for standard shots, get the primes for more advanced work?

The 3.5 - 4.5 afs ed the one before the d lens. Small light lens that got great reviews. Supposedly better and sharper than the vr and d models.
Can be picked up for around the £200 mark.

I debated between the Tamron vc and the Nikon 24-70 for a good long while. Ended up with the Nikon as the Tamron on reviews I read seemed to have a few issues. Front focusing, back focusing etc.

More than happy with my choice the lack of stabilisation on this focal length has never proved an issue and in terms of performance I have found it to be superb.

Be careful with that lens it has a well known issue with a lot of dust getting into the front element.

Thanks for all the help guys and I think I am going to have to go with a Panamoz body and a SH Nikon 24-70. Selling my DX lenses off will pay for the extra and buy a nifty fifty and Flash.

I had a couple of these, brilliant small light lens, virtually identical to the 18-70 to look at. Sharp, quite contrasty but the colour was noticeably colder than my other more recent glass which made for some PP headaches.

Thanks for the update, I think 24-70 is the way forward tbh.
