Hi guys im looking for a cheap 70-300mm af-s lens for my nikon d3100 iv tried jessops, ffordes,MPB,Camera world etc and its really hard to get one that isnt hundreds of pounds my budget would be around £100. now i know this is a bit of a long shot but would anyone have any suggestions where to get one? obviously it would be 2nd hand.

Thanks alot

The only 70-300 AF-S lens that I can think of is the VR model. They just don't go for that sort of money I'm afraid. £250 is about the least you'd expect to pay.

A cheaper alternative might be the 55-200 VR which might just come in under budget if you get lucky.

There are cheap 70-300 lenses that will autofocus on the D3100 but they aren't Nikon and aren't really very good. If you have to get one go for the Sigma 70-300 APO (must be the APO version).

As for getting a Nikon 70-300 that autofocusses on the D3100 for £100, forget it. No chance.

Out of all the options the Nikon 55-200 VR is the best bet, it's a cracking lens and a bargain for £100 (which is a realistic 2nd hand price).

As the others say, go for the 55-200 VR, it's a decent wee lens and you can find them new for around £120-130 from the likes of Amazon and Ebay.

aye cheers guys was just chancin my arm really. So the Vr will work and autofocus fine with the camera?

Yep, either the 70-300VR or 55-200VR will work just fine, if I was on a budget I'd be more than happy with the 55-200. It's a total bargain especially used, and is fairly small too so sits well on the small nikon bodies. I had one for my D40 and loved it, used it for airshows, weddings, all good :)
