Hey, am good friend of mine, who did photography when he was younger has given me these two cameras :)

I want to have a go with SLR's

Are they worth much? Don't want to sell them :)

Look like two lovely old-school cameras you've been given there! Be sure to give the kind person who gave them to you a box of chocolates, bottle of wine or some flowers to show your appreciation! As for value...I have no idea! They're not the crown jewels but you could probably pick up £20-£30 a piece off ebay if you were so inclined.

You've stumbled across a great place so get asking questions and learning, we're a helpful bunch (well most of us :D), and get posting the pictures up for us to see.
 
The guys name that gave you the cameras isnt Graham by any chance, just that I saw exactly the same camera in the 1st two pics when I was at their house last month (They lived near Cheshire). If not then its just a funny coincidence.
 
I don't know much about the Pentax other that it would probably have been a more expensive camera than the Praktica when new. The Praktica I can tell you from a cash point of view has little value, however, from an enthusiast point of view is a great old piece of kit. The MTL 50 is a slightly later generation camera which makes it easier finding a battery. Mind you no battery only means no meter. The Praktica lenses were always excellent. I notice on yours the iris is closed, perhaps to around f8. Is the lens set to manual? If not then you may have a slight sticking problem. Buy some film and try them out, just remember 24 or 36 exposures is not a lot of shooting so bad digital habits (and I have many of them) like shooting far too many similar images in the hope of getting a good one should be avoided. The M42 lens mount was very common in the day so there are many used examples available. Anyway try to have fun with them.
 
Im sure these could flog for around thirty quid. They dont look nothing special to me but i would advise selling the lens and the camera seperately as you may end up with a bit more from it.
 
I agree, about £30 seems reasonable if you were to sell it, personally I'd say just keep it, chuck a roll of film in it, or just keep it. It might be worth something one day.
 
I bought a Praktica LLC in 1973 - about £50.

I still have it, first the meter went so I bought a hand held meter and learnt about exposure. :)
Then the frame counter went so I learnt how to count. :)
Then the mirror started sticking up - cleared by using the timer although you could not see what you were taking because the mirror was up. :)
I have to admit that I did drop it a few times. :D

Pentacon lenses were quite good, and you have a nifty fifty!
The LLC which I have allows TTL metering with the lens wide open, it has electrical contacts to signal the aperture opening from the lens to the camera, I believe that your's meters with the aperture shut down, that may be why it is shut down in the picture.
Great little camera, not worth that much and quite a few on fleabay - have fun.
