weekly Longimanus 52 of 2016 - Wk 37 added - Still playing catchup though

Another excellent shot Lee. A bit of a poser but looks great in that bright yellow livery. Good offset composition; I particularly like the texture and colour of the Goby's home.

Cheers Carl again, I had this one in mind before I even left the country for that topic, I knew they were there!

That looks more like exit to my :D

But that's an great photo, nothing to fault! Brilliant composition, brilliant contrast between the yellow grumpy fish and the texture of his home.

Good point, I think I have one with the Goby going into the bottle :-)

Its amazing the way wildlife adapts to our discarded waste isn't it? although that's no reason to do of course.
Another cracking image Lee.

Many thanks Cobra, the amount of rubbish I saw was not good, on one site there was a collection of pants :-(

Interesting set of images, certainly makes you look at what you are looking at, the goby fish is a corker.

Thanks for looking Walter :-)

Hi Lee ...superb catch up there, I missed commenting on the harvest mouse ...I find it quite stunning, I don't quite understand what you've done to it, but I assume that's not the original shot.

I thought that my favourite sealife shot was the harlequin shrimp, but that little goby is very appealing, I really like the colours shining in the bottle.

Thanks for looking Susie, the harvest mouse was backlit and I exposed for the highlights, I don't recall doing much to it in post :-) (This was a captive harvest mouse though)

Those Gobies were fun to shoot, funny little things, I have one shot with a pair of them sitting in the top of the bottle as well :-)

Another cracking U/W image Lee.
A mouth brooder fits perfectly.

Fits the theme for sure - nature is stunning. Amazing that you captured the detail of the eggs in the open mouth.

Colourful - Certainly fits the theme, and then some. I assume through glass too. Can't have been an easy shot.
Artificial - A bit of a shoe horn methinks, but nevertheless that's very nicely done.
Entry - I can see a bit of a theme going on here ;) The yellow contrasting with the strong blacks works very well.
Life - I think that is my least favourite of the 4 fishy shots, it doesn't have the vibrancy of the others (and feels less sharp). Cool shot though.

Cheers Carl, I spent a longtime with this subject, took ages to get the shot, they only open their mouths to shuffle around the eggs every so often

Not through glass, in the wild :)
Most underwater photography needs artificial light in the form of strobes to get the colours :)
Sorry, just got back from a diving holiday :), I took the list of topics I was behind on and thought about them whilst out there
It is a slight miss on the focus as its on the bottom lip and not the eggs, bit of a crop as well.

Wow, how lucky you are to find these subjects ! Love these types of photos. Just started in my open water dive course and hope to be able to take some pics when I get more confident ! Great !

A face full of character - how fascinating is nature eh! (Reminds me of the mother-in-law). Well chosen for the theme and more importantly great addition to the set.

Wow some stunning sea life shots I love them I think my favourite has to be the Bangai Cardinal with the eggs in its mouth but it is hard to choose

Harlequin Shrimp interesting colourful stuff, Yellow Pygmy Goby is a cracker. :D

Like that, good take on the theme

Blimey, now that one above me is one Ugly critter !!!

Not you @sirch Chris, the fish :D

I must say, a real good selection of cracking bright and detailed images in your catch up Lee, some look so surreal !!!

What a fascinating set - I can't choose between the goby and the harlequin shrimp - both so well composed with fabulous colours.

That's one ugly looking fish. Nice details and lovely colour

and stargazer is frightful.

Many thanks for all the kind comments, Im still struggling to catchup on this, but determined to get there soon, a week in Wales should help :-)

I can't believe how much I have fallen behind on this, but I have been out and about with the themes on my phone, so here goes for a big catchup!

Stone

Llyn Padarn - Snowdonia, Wales
by Shark Seeker, on Flickr

I like this composition, but I seemed to get a lot of noise into the photo, not sure if this is because of the slow shutter or just my processing, let me know what you think

Another from the same place but of the lone tree, again a slow shutter to get the smooth water

Good photos for stone and lone, particularly the tree very nicely done. You posted serene while I was typing, I think that is spot on, lovely photo

Simple

Red Kite - Grigin Farm, Wales / Project 52 - Simple
by Shark Seeker, on Flickr

This is a red kite from Grigin Farm, Wales where they feed the kites, I could not believe the amount of kites when I turned up, apparently there can be 3-400 at once.

I didn't envisage this as simple when I was taking the shot, but only when processing. The Oly is not great for tracking and I've never done any BIF shots before so I didn't think I would get anything decent, but I was quite please with this. The sky was a one tone grey so I converted this into a high key shot, which makes it a very simple shot.

Im a bit unsure about it, but you don't learn anything without trying something new, any feedback much appreciated

Fabulous catch-up Lee - amazing images all. Classic composition for Lone ... really like those sharp rocks in the fg which lead the eye in. Beautiful image for Serene with soft misty water and sunlight playing across the rocks. As for Simple - what can I say, super shot - spacious white bg for the flight and wonderful detail in the bird. Excellent.

Wonderful images for the catch up.

Stone - lovely colours and like the way the clouds lead in the image.
Lone - again lovely colours and light. Not sure if there is a slight processing glow around the trees in the middle or if it's just the change in light in the hills. fantastic image anyway.
Serene - again a lovely image, very nice with the milky sea and the stones.
Simple - my favourite of the catch-up. It may be simple but very well executed.

Thanks for all the nice comments, the simple one was a little cheat as I used the new Photoshop crop/content aware tool to put the red kite more off centre by making the image bigger, it wasn't there on the original shot :-)

Life

Blue Shark - Penzance, Cornwall / 52 Project - Life
by Shark Seeker, on Flickr

Sorry all, another underwater image for you representing life. These great animals (and all sharks) are clinging to life at the moment due to over fishing decimating their numbers. I don't want to go into who is responsible for this and blame anyone but we need to do something quick to stop it or the top of the food chain in the oceans will disappear. When you see these guys in the wild it is amazing, it is an absolute pleasure to watch them, even if some do get a bit friendly :-)

Wow...i am really enjoying your catch up Lee! My favourite of the landscapes is serene - the sharpness through the shot (something I really struggle with!) colours and long exposure on the water are beautiful. The composition of lone is gorgeous, too. I've never noticed a slow shutter speed introducing noise into images (not that I'm any expert) but obviously bringing up the exposure or sharpening might?
I love your kite shot too - I think extending the background for that off centre position worked a treat - its position is just perfect and looks sharp enough here, too.
Your shark is simply awesome! That eye just draws you in and your back story is certainly food for thought.

What a fantastic set of images (y)

Thanks @Emja for all the comments, much appreciated, I have a soft spot for the sharks and its really sad to see what is happening to them around the world!

Great photo of the blue shark, brilliant details given that you are underwater, I never knew they were under threat.
Vast is a good take on the theme good contrast between the dunes and the sky.

Love the shark with that huge eye. Lovely sleek creatures - they must be saved from endangerment. Vast is very well composed and great looking ominous clouds ... although just a little too dark imho.

Black and White

Old Pier - Brighton / Project 52 - Black and White
by Shark Seeker, on Flickr

Popped out this morning to Brighton Pier, its something that I have been wanting to do for a while and with Black and White up on the project I thought that this would be applicable. I would have preferred if the wind was onshore so the clouds were coming towards me and if the tide was in a bit more, but overall I'm quite happy with the image, I will just have to go back again :-)

Chris, thanks for the comments, I think most sharks are under threat these days, there are reports that 100 million sharks are killed each year by humans :-(

Lee your photos are absolutely stunning ...they are all captivating ...a brilliant and enviable catch up

Thanks Susie, I just need to get over to others posts now and comment back :-)

Thanks Carl, I agree about Vast, I think I tweaked it a bit too much

Yeah, looks a little under exposed. Well composed and might be a candidate for a square crop. Looks like the clouds were not moving very fast, none the less, a dramatic photograph.

Cheers.
