Longer tripods and camera bags

Looking for some advice. I currently use Benro C4570F legs and a B5 ball head that measure just under a metre tall when folded, the dimensions being:

Legs 75cm
Ball head 15cm

I looked to see if there were carbon fibre tripod legs that were shorter and so looked at both the:

Looking at these the overall length isn't much of a saver as the TMA38CL measure in at 59cm so 74cm with the head and the TMA48CXL being 67cm, so 83cm with the head on.

Barely much of a length saver over my existing legs and head combo.

Moving on to the reason why. My combo is great, I love the legs and head and they're so lightweight and strong but the length is a killer as my camera bag, and all those I've found, are so much less taller that they end up looking like some camera device that sticks up so much it looks like I'm a Google street view mapper! That and the fact they don't feel like they've been securely fastened to the bag.

I've looked at hiking backpacks that are naturally longer so the tripod doesn't stick up so much and thus makes it feel like they're secured more safely but I've not found anything suitable.

So, as it looks like the tripod legs and head combos above are not going to give me much more overall shortened length over what I have now I'm at a loss.

Can anyone recommend a camera bag / hiking bag that are long and suit a longer tripod?

I've got an FLM tripod which is a faintly ridiculous 91cm "folded" (with arca swiss head)

I carry it on a Dakine Poacher (36L) snowboarding/ski pack. The benefits are that there's lots of straps on the outside designed for carrying skis, so a tripod is a perfect fit. There's also a helmet "net" thing which accepts a nice kneeling pad. It also opens from the side that's against your back, which means if you plop it down to get gear out on wet grass/mud etc, you're not getting a wet back when you put the pack back on. With it being a hiking backpack, it's framed and really supportive. I added a Yimidear insert which will hold 2 X-T bodies with lenses attached, a spare lens, and a Lee filter pouch. There's still plenty of room in the pack for waterproofs, lunch and a couple of 500ml water bottles. You can also put a camelback thing in there but I found it just much easier to do bottles.

There are lots of separate compartments, and if this pack dies (2yrs now and going strong) my only gripe would be to replace it with something a bit more roomy. There really isn't much more room for anything other than lunch and a waterproof. If you're travelling light camera-wise though, you might have more room.

My tripod bag hangs horizontally under my backpack on straps like a rolled up sleeping mat.
 
I use a Jack Wolfskin Highland Trail XT50 which is quite a long pack. It has compression straps and two bungee attachments to attach a tripod. I have Manfrotto 055 which is quite large and hefty and it holds it easily. The whole of the front opens too to accept a camera insert. Highly recommended and comfortable rucksack.
 
I thank you all for your responses I've taken a look at all the bags and have decided to maybe have another look at some of the hiking backpacks. From looking at the Jack Wolfskin bag on Amazon there was a link to another bag called a Creeper which looked quite interesting as it has some a large compression straps on the side and also a couple of large click straps on the front and the main compartment can be zipped right open all the way along the front of the bag. It looks quite promising so I'm going to take a punt on this one and see what it's like and with case scenario I'll send it back to Amazon if it's no good. From doing a quick Google Search on the backpack it does seem to make the top 10 bags on some comparison sites for vags with an internal frame.

I had a similar problem with a gitzo tripod I picked up on offer. It was a fantastic price and the downside was the overall length with head reaching 90-100cm. In the end I sold it on here here when I found one of the same tripod but a shorter version (again one of the very last of the old model being sold off). It’s still around 65-70cm long but that’s a about a foot less and I find it more manageable

Get down an outdoors stores to see and try a few on. They usually have measuring devices to get the right fit for you and have some load weights to put in bags you try on. It’s surprising how often you can find offers/good prices if you look for them and are not in a rush. That said if they give advice and fit/measure you it can be worth the extra over amazon (your back may thank you in the long run).
 
LowePro used to make a tripod pouch that hung below the bottom of the (compatible) backpacks (I use a few of them) they reduced the overall height and helped stop tripods flapping about when walking.. Not certain if they still make them though.
