OK, went to the beach yesterday with my 30D and my 17-55 IS lens and, hanging over the edge of a cliff - with husband hanging onto camera strap! I took a number of timed exposures from 5 sec up to 25 sec to try and get some blurring of the water, with the camera stable on the rock. When I've uploaded them today I've got 13 image numbers of said pics but no pics. Any idea what happened. I've got an Ultra II 4 gig memory card by the way. I took other pics after and they recorded OK so it's only the long exposure ones that seem not to.

:help:

when I want blurring of water, I use shutter speed of 1/15, 1/30 of a second, sounds like you have way over exposed them

View the card in explorer, or finder ( mac). Do you see the image file names? If so check out their properties, and see if the long exposures have similar files sizes to the other images.

can you see the images on the camera? sometimes image will be saved in raw format and your computer may not be able to view until process with appropriate software

I would guess at gross over-exposure Bruja, as getting exposures that long would mean using a ND filter, and I don't believe you have one..
Given the kind of weather this area has been having, the shortest exposure you would be able to get in daylight here would be something like a quarter to a half of a second given your lens and camera....
If you want to try again, I could lend you a ND filter..

Now there's a coincidence. Same thing happened to me last night whilst taking a few pics of an old bridge in Liverpool and the view off it. Took about 25 pics and 11 came out. Longish exposures. The two decent ones are these:

Haven't a clue what happened.

Anyone any idea?

Chris :)

Ten gets you one they are images which are completely whited out because they are grossly over-exposed.

I know, I know, 30 minutes after I posted this I realised they were just totally overexposed. Taken at about 1pm on a very sunny day in Southern Spain. I am such a numpty. So thanks for the advice about shutter times, and it was me who told him indoors to hold onto the camera strap cos broken bones will mend but 1200 quids worth of gear probably wouldn't! And it was only about a 10 foot drop :lol:
