Quick question, does taking long exposures like 30 secs plus do any damage to the camera?

No ... as long as you are not doing a long exposure of the sun! :D

Any astrophotographer will take far longer than 30 sec all the time. I've done this to both my cameras and neither has batted an eyelid. If fact one camera is dedicated to astrophotography. That camera (an old one) will normally go through a couple of batteries, but that's doing back to back long exposures for a couple of hours, but that's the worst of it.

Appreciate your response [emoji106] just thought it may harm. Happy now to carry on. Many thanks.

From memory, the manual for the Sony a7r says that to avoid damage to the sensor (it has no mirror to deflect light away) you should keep the lens cap on except when taking photos. This must refer to danger from leaving it in the sun all day, as the camera could be stuck on a tripod and the video function started giving a 30 minute exposure in full daylight.
