I've got a compact camera, love it. Photography is my job, but when wandering around town, or even some travelling, I don't want to lug my big heavy kit around. In fact, i often even use my point and shoot on some jobs. Composition, seeing the light and seeing interesting things make for far better pictures than boring photos taken with the very best kit.

Ignore the gear collecting and go out and take pictures :)

I don't get the impression people on this forum really care what camera anybody else has which is nice to see.
You certainly shouldn't feel out of your depth for any reason (knowledge level, camera etc,.) and should not be afraid to ask whatever you want and there should be a relevant section for it.

No. But the dominant vocal minority get very insecure about anything other than a DSLR with a big zoom, it's some sort if sexually-related size-thing. Probably something to do with unresolved issues with parental relationships or insecure gender identity.

Best bet.. just post your photos, ideas and comments but remove the EXIF and ignore anyone that asks what gear you used to take the image. That sort of person isn't here for the pictures and probably hasn't anything sensible to say anyway

I use a iphone, a Pannasonic GF1, a Fuji X100 a D700 or my wifes stupid little pink thing from 10 years ago.

Use whatever gets the shots.

Someone once started saying how my images that I'd posted (not here) were photoshopped and no way were they real. It wasnt until I pointed out they were with my iphone and editied with a very simple app, he realised that photography isnt about equipment, its about photographs.

Where do you see this behaviour, is it seen in the feedback sections?
Have to say I haven't noticed it.
FYI - I only use a 50 lens which makes me very secure in my sexuality :)

When I joined TP I was using a compact exclusively. I have a DSLR now, but the compact is a lot more easy to carry about (what with it being 'compact' and all) and I use it quite a lot. My main problem is that I replaced mine last year and just don't get on with the one I have now :'(.
