Lonely This Christmas

@Keith W pity you are not near me, would have set a place at the table for you, although I do not know you, it does feel like I do know you :) Hope you do manage to have as good a time as you can...

I'm alone too, well used to it though and it doesn't bother me but I can see how folk can get depressed. I see it as an extra day off, get a bit of washing and cleaning done, make the dinner and go see what's on Netflix.

Take it easy Keith.

I'm not alone but can sympathise. Christmas is bitter-sweet for me but I keep it under wraps.

Get involved with a local homeless charity or something. At 3am this morning I cooked-up a few times of beans, chucked them in some Tupperware boxes with some pork pies, a slab of cheese and some mince pies and took them to some wooden sheds up the road where I'd heard, in the pub earlier on, there were a few folk sleeping rough.

"I'm not Police, nor am I a God botherer. I'm just a local. I have some hot food for you."

One of them came to the door, shook my hand and wished me a merry Christmas.

Good feels.

Many thanks everyone your comments really do mean a great deal and are greatly appreciated.

I have just stuck my beef on to slow cook and will enjoy a nice dinner later on, i even notice the odd bottle of beer lurking in the kitchen so who knows

There's nothing quite like an odd beer...

I was thinking along the lines of Skull Splitter or Dragonhead from Orkney Brewery :)

Merry Christmas to you Keith. Enjoy the beef and the beer.

Have you tried Brewdog's Tactical Nuclear Penguin or Sink The Bismarck?
I don't know them.
I specialised in Highland brewery beers when I had my own wine shop :)

Fair enough. Brewdog are based in Aberdeenshire and make some fairly groundbreaking beers. Tactical Nuclear Penguin is a 32% imperial stout and Sink The Bizmark is a 41% IPA. Both are now quite hard to get hold of and change hands for quite a lot of money.

I have tried both, the STB only last Tuesday, and I have an empy TNP bottle here, soon to be joined by the STB bottle when my beer-collecting mate finishes it. :)

Merry Christmas Keith - enjoy the dinner & beer and I hope the day's turning out to be better than you thought it might have been

p.s. If you're still lonely, I'll add my father-in-law to Ken's mother-in-law (much the same issue) and I'll even pay the train fares to ship them both up to you for Boxing Day :D

I could easily be wrong, but I think both of them were prinmarily for PR and they brought out a "nanny state" low alcohol beer when the inevitable s*** storm happened.

Yes, they are primarily showcase beers and produced in very small one-off batches.

Beery gold Iphones, or chrome Audies and what have you.

It's been over 10 years since I changed professions, so I'm not up to speed with beers (and I've forgotten a lot I used to know)

I try to keep up to date with wines :)

There are lots of new breweries coming and going these days.
Yes, there's a lot of great beers being brewed. Many of the craft breweries are breathing new life into the old art through innovation and new hop varieties. Some of the tastiest beers I've ever tasted have been over the last 12 months.

Thornbridge's Jaipur... simply amazing.

Well I have been invited out to someones house for dinner tomorrow evening.

Is it wrong of me to think what gadget did they get for Christmas that they need to pick my brains about?

It's free food, shut up and eat! :)

Good things come at a cost. Enjoy being used :)

Not at all! But don't let it stop you going and enjoying some company with (hopefully good!) food and a jar or 2. If they are trying to pick your brains to get a gadget working properly, enjoy the feeling of superiority when you get it sorted in double quick time (as well as getting to play with their toys for a while!)

It's just when you are still there at 1am playing with their gadget and they are wanting to go to bed, that you have got your money's worth.

Last year they took in a tramp to give them that warm feeling that they are doing something for society. It took them til February to get rid of him though. So this year they are playing it safe.
Jus' kiddin'.

Teach 'em a lesson - stay until Easter!

Or they could be, on hearing you're lonely, being kind without an ulterior motive

This could be true

Having said that however he does have form for ringing up to arrange a coffee and bringing along the odd gadget or two he is having problems with

If it bothers you, you could just say no thanks, and spend another lonely night on your own. :p

Merry Christmas, Keith, if it's appropriate! I've only just seen this thread. My mum and my brother died in 2010 and 2012 respectively; I'm stuck with a very, very grumpy old step-dad for Christmas! Get out there and take some pics and All the Best for 2016 :-)!

Well I went and had dinner, got asked a couple of things about the iPad, a few questions about the chrome cast, one about a sat nav and another about a weather station.

I am now still awake as I have very bad wind/tummy ache

Have said all that though it was a good evening

I forget sometimes how lonely christmas can be for some, I have four kids and they're all home for xmas, well except my youngest son who this year is spending xmas in china. Its really great to have them all home and we have a huge family christmas dinner thats the main event, but now its 27th december and I can't bloody wait for them all to go back

I've been on my own for 12 years, yes i have family who i see over the festive period but they have their own lives, and i to feel lonely, you have to make your own entertainment to keep your mind occupied, watch tv, go out for a pint or two, go for a walk with the camera, etc because the minute you start feeling sorry for yourself, you're doomed imo.

Keep your chin up,

Best wishes.
