Need some help. My wife and daughter are going to visit London on a sight seeing trip and to meet up with my daughters young friend. They are trying to find a hotel near the visitor attractions but still be a reasonable price. They are looking at maps etc and are ok with train/underground etc. Anyone recommend a hotel for them both which they can easily travel to the attractions of London but donate have over inflated prices...Must add it must be in a safe area as its my wife and daughter..Any help you can give folks.

Just be aware that hotels near the City and Canary Wharf are surprisingly cheap at weekends when the business community has escaped for a couple of days and still only a short tube or DLR ride to the attractions.

Or go the other way, assuming you avoid the rugby hotels here are in the £100 twin room price. 20 mins to South bank on the train

I've stayed at the London Bridge Premier Inn a few times, from memory its cheap for London, clean and comfy, location isn't bad and you get breakfast which is ok too.

Look at the premier inn@south bank....(located in the old county hall building)..next to the London eye.....it is usually quite inexpensive......also you could look at Paddington....plenty of non branded hotels all with in a short tube ride..... another option depending on dates would be to try the university halls, they can be worth a punt if it is out of term.....

To be honest it all depends on the dates and what events are happening and whether there are international holidays etc. prices can vary wildly depending on demand.

I stay over a lot, probably one or two nights per week. For ease of booking etc I normally stay within the IHG group and either the Inter Continental, Crowne Plaza or Indigo brands. And more recently their brand new suite hotels Staybridge.

Cost vary between £89 - £450 per night purely depending on demand.

As such the only correct answer can be provided when you know when you are travelling.

Just looked for this weekend on my app.

Crowne Plaza in the City (by Blackfriars station) is only £140/night
Holiday Inn in Bloomsbury is only £115/night
Holiday Inn Express in Victoria (close to Pimlico tube station) on £89/night
Or Staybridge Suites at Stratford City only £130/night

Take your pick by fully branded know what you are going to get good quality hotels in safe areas.

I've used the hilton at canary wharfe before and you can catch the river clipper service down to the attractions.

Hilton london Docklands has a great bar you can sit outside overlooking the river and they run a shuttle service over to the other side of the river about every ten minutes. You can then walk ten minutes into Canary Wharfe station or take the river clipper down into central London, which adds to the event. There's some good places to eat around canary wharfe in the evenings also.

We stayed there when we had a weekend in London for warhorse, getting there we took the train to paddington, tube to embankment and caught the river service. It was easy and different. Cost was about the norm for london hotels and you know what you get with a Hilton

I've used a hotel in Paddington when working in London for a week. trouble is I was working 15 min walk away from kings cross so it was effectively an hours commute to the workplace everyday.
Paddington however is a great place to eat, very muticutural. Theres a great noodle place £6 for a tub of rice or noodles with two toppings, a great french patisserie. Then you've the Canal and Little Venice behind for wandering with the camera.

It is just a little out if you want to be central.

We use Quidco first, then go to booking.com, hotels.com and find the best deal. You get cash back too.

Thanks again folks. One last question-My wife has been told that flying into Luton Stanstead and Gatwick then you have issues getting to central London area but if she goes to Heathrow then its an easy journey-is this true or can you easily get transport from the other airports as well.Your thoughts folks.

Undoubtedly Heathrow is quick with the Heathrow express.

However I go most days from Luton Parkway myself, straight into St Pancras and various other central London stations. I get off at Blackfriars.

Gatwick is on the same line as luton but from the south. Also very easy, and as an alternative can also get a train into Victoria.

Stanstead I've never done by public transport so don't know ...

I used to make the journey from Liverpool St > stanstead a couple of times a week. It's very easy and frequent. Takes about 45 minutes as I remember. Straightforward and quick

I think it depends on how well you are accustomed to using trains and public transport.

All the airports have train links into London:
* Luton into Kings X, Blackfriars, London Bridge
* Stansted into Liverpool St
* Gatwick into Victoria, London Bridge, Blackfriars, Kings X
* Heathrow into Paddington

They're all reasonably straightforward but they all have their disadvantages. Luton airport station isn't actually in the airport and you have to get a shuttle bus. Stansted is a bit further out from London, so the train takes a bit longer. Gatwick rail station is busy and confusing. The Heathrow Express is very expensive. Which of these is most significant depends on your personal preferences.

The big difference is that Heathrow is also on the Underground network.

Aha are you thinking of a certain place near Marble Arch just off the edgeware road?

I can't help, but I'm thinking of something similar. In my kids summer holiday term I want to take them to Legoland, Windsor. My wife also wants to see London and have a day around the shops (god help me). I don't really want to be taking my big oil burning derv into congestion charge zones so I'll probably edge towards getting the tube or some sort of park and ride.

What you'll loose on the congestion charge you will spend more on public transport. I wouldn't use that as an argument personally.

Then again depending when you go you may spend more on parking ;) as ever it all depends.

Parking in central london requires a second mortgage. Was there a few years back taking my daughter to uni, her digs were in westminster, fortunately it was a sunday and parking on the road was free and there was a space opposite her halls. Stayed at a premier inn then in Hamstead heath, cost me less than £50 a night good bargain. Was going to drive into London next day and enjoy the city before driving back home but parking was far too expensive. Had a day in Cambridge instead :)

Just get on the train @ Windsor. 1 hour to Waterloo

That is price per adult ;) children have to be under 11 to be free.

Congestion charge and parking cost depends on when you are going. But hey as I said it all depends and there isn't a single best answer.

i find trip advisor is handy for finding hotels as you can easily see them all on a map in the part of london you want to mainly see - it is quite spread out compared with many cities
