Yes
I'm off down London on weds for the day , theres an exhibition i want to look at for a couple of hours , then i want to spend the rest of the day walking round with the camera.

problem is i cant make my mind up what to take , one option is to travel very light , D60 , 18-55 kits lens , flash gun , all this will go in my Lowepro mini bag

second option is all of the above plus 55-200 lens plus filters etc etc all this is in a backpack

I intend to try a bit of "street" photography and shoot anything else of interest

thing is the idea of travelling light appeals to me but will i miss the reach of the 55-200 in certain situations ? I've never done this kind of thing before and wondered if the bigger lens was a must ? i also like the thought of not having to change lenses but dont want to regret not bringing the other lens !!!!

I just wondered what others used in these siuations ?

I tend to wander with both short and longer as your suggesting ..I can honestly say I use the short 99% of the time and so theoretically I wouldn't be to worried if I didn't have the longer with me.

Id say go for the short if its important not to carry to much, its not as if your going to be short of photo opportunities or anything!

Mind saying all that I have become a little obsessed with using a 28mm prime on the streets, so perhaps that’s more the real reason.

What's that Adam, you use a 28mm? Can't say I've ever noticed!

Seriously though, I'd agree with what Adam says. I did the London Street Challenge in March with just a k50mm lens. I usually pack the 70-200 but didn't on this occasion and didn't miss it at all. If you're going to do street photography in London (or anywhere else for that matter) traveling light is always a good thing.

I go out on the streets of London fairly regular and my current kit is an E-P1 with 14-42, and a 35mm with with a 50mm. You don't need anything longer than that imo. I just stuff bits and pieces in my trusty Berghaus 24/7 18 and have the cameras slung on my neck/shoulder.

Lighter and smaller is definitely better when it comes to a bag.....you'll be squeezing through crowds a fair bit depending on where you go.

Travelling light is fine in London! I've found that I rarely need a zoom when I'm out there...
